Definitions

  • the invention relates to a device for relieving problems associated with sweating feet.
  • These problems are known to all, and can be summed up by mentioning an uncomfortable damp feeling, bad odours which spread to shoes and linger, causing irritation to the skin of the foot, and other effects.
  • These problems arise not only in persons for whom the sweating leads to pathological problems of the foot, when subjects wear for a long time footwear which does not allow a sufficient aeration of that region. This can especially happen to sportspersons, hunters and fishermen, soldiers and others who for various reasons wear closed, heavy and waterproof shoes. Footwear made of synthetic material also gives rise to such problems, as it tends to increase sweating and trap the sweat and bad odours which are generated thereby.
  • the present invention aims to eliminate the above-mentioned drawbacks in the prior art by providing a device which allows the foot to sweat naturally but at the same time completely eliminates the discomforts caused by sweating feet.
  • An advantage of the invention is that it can be used in combination with footwear and socks of any type and also increases these articles' useful life.
  • a further advantage is that the invention is extremely simple and economical to manufacture.
  • the device of the invention is constituted by a single-use article of a shape suitable for wrapping around the foot.
  • the article is basically sock-shaped and envelops the foot up to about the height of the ankle.
  • the shape of the article should not, however, be considered a limitation of the device, as the important principle is to cover the foot and any suitable length of article will do.
  • the article can be provided with closeable apertures. Given that the article is destined to be used, and therefore closed, once only, the closure of said apertures can be obtained very simply, for example by providing the flaps of the aperture with self-adhesive surfaces, or the like.
  • the article can be used with feet of different sizes, which in turn means that the number of sizes which have to be produced can be limited, leading to obvious reductions in manufacturing, distribution and warehousing costs.
  • the article can also have an elastic border so that it will maintain a correct position on the foot. Another advantage contributing to a possible limitation in the number of sizes to be manufactured.
  • the article is made of a multilayer material comprising a first layer, in contact with the foot, one or more intermediate layers and an external layer.
  • the first layer is made of a material of known type, which allows sweat to pass through; for example a thin layer of a material known on the market as "material- not material" could be used, or similar products.
  • the intermediate layer is made of a material, of known type, able to absorb and hold the sweat; a very suitable material for this objective is, for example, the material used for babies' nappies or tampons (cellulose fluff)
  • This layer can be wrapped in a thin veil of absorbent material.
  • the thickness of this layer is also very slim; it can also comprise, at the points where the foot sweats the most, zones having a greater absorbent power with respect to the remaining zones. In these zones, but also if so desired in the other zones of the intermediate layer, the material can be impregnated with known-type powders, such as for example hygroscopic powders, able to absorb and hold liquids of up to 50 times their own weight.
  • the external layer is made of a material of known type which is sweat-proof. This external layer can be made simply from a film of liquid-proof material, such a polyethylene, and can be attached to the external face of the intermediate layer.
  • the article constituting the device can be, according to the uses it will be destined for and according to the material used for the intermediate layer, of a thickness ranging from a few tenths of a millimetre up to one or two millimetres, or even more; its thickness, however, should be such as to enable it to be worn comfortably under a sock as well as directly on the foot. The cost of producing an article such as the one described is obviously very contained.
  • the sweat freely produced by the foot, inasmuch as its production is not hampered by the article, crosses the first layer and is absorbed and held in the second layer; the first layer, in contact with the foot, thus stays dry at all times and therefore so does the foot (the principle is very similar to that for babies' nappies or tampons). In this way all problems caused by sweating feet are eliminated.
  • the external layer stops the sweat produced from coming into contact with the sock or footwear, so that the latter cannot absorb the sweat and consequently smell. The shoes will not even be damaged, which normally happens when the material they are made of absorbs the sweat.
