Abstract

A snow skate having a boot (30) securable to a generally horizontally oriented base plate (40) having a generally smooth, flat bottom surface suitable for use as a skating/skiing surface. The toe portion of the boot has a forwardly open slot (32) shaped to receive a rearwardly extending flange (50) carried by the toe portion of the base plate, the flange having a generally crescent shape and being located off-center toward the inner edge of the base plate. A manually releasable latch (64) is provided for securing the heel portion of the boot to the heel portion of the base plate. Thus, when the boot's forwardly open slot is engaged with the base plate's rearwardly extending flange, the manually releasable latch may be secured to lock the base plate to the boot.
