Abstract

A method for thermally disinfecting waste, particularly biologically hazardous waste, wherein the waste is placed in a compaction area and compressed, and the gases given off during waste compaction are filtered before being discharged. The mould is then sealed and heated, and the temperature and pressure therein are monitored. The waste is heated to 100-200 °C and all parts that have contacted the waste are also disinfected.
