Abstract

This invention is a heat release tape (2) for attachment to a surface (9), preferably human skin. The heat release tape (2) includes a backing material and an adhesive applied to the backing material on one or both sides, the adhesive being pressure sensitive at skin temperature, and having a melting temperature in the range between physiological skin temperature and below a temperature at which burns or pain would result. The tape (2) is removed from the skin using a tape removing apparatus (6) that includes an external surface (18) for being placed in contact with the tape (2); a source of heat (10) disposed adjacent to the external surface (18) for heating the external surface (18) to a temperature exceeding the melting temperature of the adhesive; and a temperature controller (14) for regulating the temperature of the external surface (18).
