Definitions
- the invention relates to an electric toothbrush with a toothbrush axis which is rotatably and axially displaceably mounted in a toothbrush housing and which moves from a rotating motor shaft of an electric motor by means of a first gear in a reciprocating movement in the direction of its longitudinal axis and by a second one having an eccentric Gear can be set in a rotating movement oscillating about its longitudinal axis.
- the first gear has a pinion arranged on the motor shaft, which drives a crown wheel.
- This crown wheel carries an eccentric which engages in a transverse groove of an arm of a fork attached to the end of the toothbrush axis and thereby produces the back and forth movement of the toothbrush axis which runs in the longitudinal direction of the toothbrush axis.
- the second gear is provided between the crown wheel and the other arm of the fork and ensures that the eccentric generating the oscillating movement of the toothbrush axis rotates at a substantially lower speed than the eccentric producing the reciprocating movement. It has been shown that such a frequency difference is advantageous for tooth cleaning.
- the second gear determines the frequency difference between the reciprocating and the oscillating movement of the toothbrush axis. Since the toothbrush according to EP-A-0 628 291 has a frequency difference of approximately 1:30 is aimed for, the second gear must be designed to be relatively complex in order to have the required transmission ratio. For this reason, a double planetary gear was provided in EP-A-0 628 291.
- DE-B-15 32 804 it is also known in the case of electric toothbrushes to produce a reciprocating movement of the toothbrush axis by means of a cam mechanism.
- this document does not show a second gear with which it is possible for the toothbrush axis to be able to carry out its oscillating movement with a frequency lower than that of the reciprocating movement.
- the toothbrush according to DE-B-15 32 804 is designed such that, depending on the position of a switch, the toothbrush axis either performs a reciprocating or an oscillating movement.
- the invention is based on the problem of designing an electrical toothbrush of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that a different frequency can be achieved between the pendulum movement and the reciprocating movement of the toothbrush axis with as little effort as possible.
- This problem is solved according to the invention in that the first gear is a cam mechanism with a circumferential cam provided on the motor shaft, and in that the second gear having the eccentric for driving has a rite also arranged on the motor shaft.
- Such a toothbrush has only a single gear reducing the frequency of the motor shaft.
- the stroke cam mechanism ensures that the toothbrush axis executes its reciprocating motion with the relatively high frequency of the revolving motion of the motor shaft, while the second gear reduces this frequency to a lower frequency that is optimal for the pen motion.
- the frequency difference between the two movements of the toothbrush axis results in the toothbrush according to the invention from the difference between the speed of the motor shaft and the speed of the second eccentric.
- the frequency difference results from the speed of the crown wheel which is reduced compared to the speed of the motor shaft and the speed of the second eccentric.
- the second gear must have a much larger transmission ratio than the gear according to the invention, so that the toothbrush according to the invention can be designed much simpler and is correspondingly less expensive to manufacture. It is also advantageous with the toothbrush according to the invention that the toothbrush axis can be designed to be tiltable relative to the housing of the toothbrush.
- the toothbrush is particularly simple if the second gear has a crown wheel driven by the pinion on which the eccentric is arranged.
- An electric toothbrush in which the toothbrush axis has a fork pointing towards the electric motor, the eccentric engaging in a longitudinal guide of one arm of the fork, can be further developed into the toothbrush according to the invention in that the other arm of the fork leads over the crown wheel and engages with the stroke curve on the motor shaft.
- the cam mechanism can also be designed differently.
- An advantageous embodiment consists in that the stroke curve is formed by a flange which is oriented obliquely to the transverse direction of the motor shaft and that the arm of the fork which engages over the crown wheel engages over this flange with a guide groove.
- the frequency of the reciprocating movement of the toothbrush axis can be doubled compared to the speed of the motor shaft with simple means if the stroke curve is designed to generate two strokes per revolution of the motor shaft.
- Fig.l is a perspective view of one for the
- FIG. 2 shows a side view of a transmission-side end of a motor shaft
- 3 shows a perspective view of an embodiment of a transmission-side end of the motor shaft that has been modified compared to FIG. 2.
- FIG. 1 shows a partial area of an electric motor 1 which drives a motor shaft 2.
- a lifting curve 3 designed as an inclined flange and behind it a pinion 4 are arranged.
- the pinion 4 drives a crown wheel 5 which is fixed to the housing.
- a tooth 7 is attached to a toothbrush axis 6 designed to fasten a plug-on brush, not shown, which engages with an arm 8 over the crown wheel 5 and with an arm 9 under the crown wheel 5.
- a longitudinal guide 10 designed as an elongated hole, into which an eccentric of the crown wheel 5 engages with play. If the crown wheel 5 rotates, then the eccentric 11 performs a circular movement. Since it can only move in the longitudinal direction in the longitudinal guide 10, this circular movement leads to an oscillating movement of the fork 7 and thus also the toothbrush axis 6 about its longitudinal axis.
- the toothbrush axis 6 can be rotated in the usual manner in the toothbrush housing (not shown) and is additionally axially displaceable.
- the upper arm 8 of the fork 7 extends beyond the stroke curve 3. It has a guide groove 12 near its motor-side end, with which it engages over the stroke curve 3.
- the guide groove 12 therefore forms with the lifting curve 3 a first gear 13 designed as a cam gear, while the pinion 4 forms a second gear 14 with the crown gear 5 and the eccentric 11.
- Figure 2 illustrates the design of the motor shaft 2. It can be seen that the lifting curve 3 by an oblique posed flange is formed. The inclination determines the stroke of the toothbrush axis 6 shown in FIG. 1. The pinion 4 arranged in front of the stroke curve 3 can also be seen in FIG.
- the stroke curve 3 is designed such that the toothbrush axis 6 shown in FIG. 1 carries out two strokes in the direction of its longitudinal axis per revolution of the motor shaft 2.
