Abstract

Un nouveau type de sous-ensemble optique d'émetteur, convenant particulièrement aux communications par fibre optique, comprend une source lumineuse telle qu'une diode laser (4) du type à émission en surface, qui présente un diamètre mode-champ adapté sans lentille à celui de la fibre optique (13), ce qui donne un meilleur couplage lumineux, des tolérances moins rigides et moins de sensibilité à un mauvais alignement du laser. Ce sous-ensemble peut prendre la forme d'un réceptacle, doté d'un anneau (6) présentant un conducteur de lumière (5) adapté à la source lumineuse et à la fibre, ou bien il peut prendre la forme d'un flexible de balai (41) et comprendre une fibre optique tamponée (45) fixée à demeure. Un seul alignment actif est nécessaire et il peut être éliminé si la diode laser (4) est alignée passivement à l'aide des surfaces d'appui (20, 23) de l'anneau (6) ou l'extrémité de la gaine de fibre, et à l'aide de surfaces d'appui (21, 25) correspondantes disposées sur un substrat de montage (29), un alignement par soudure fondue (22, 24) permettant d'aligner ces deux éléments. Pour réduire les réflexions renvoyées dans le laser (4), les côtés de l'anneau (6) tournés vers le laser et le conducteur de lumière (5) peuvent être usinés de façon à former un angle par rapport à l'axe optique ou bien la diode (4) peut être disposée de façon à former un angle par rapport à la fibre. Cette conception réduit les réflexions renvoyées dans la diode laser mais en plus, la lumière reflétée permet de surveiller et commander la sortie de la diode laser.
