Abstract

The present invention concerns a cylindrical device with a brush to avoid hair loss in hair hygiene caused by brushing or manual friction. The invention consists chiefly of a set of two interconnected parts: a cylindrical body attached to the top of the brush and the brush itself. The cylindrical body consists of an elastic membrane which covers an axis attached to the top of the brush by two supports fitted, in turn, to the ends of the body of the cylinder. The central part of the axis is concave to allow the membrane, which covers the axis, to be suitable for any head and, in addition to this, the action is simultaneously aided by the rotation of the cylinder. Thus, the body of the cylinder 'holds' the hair whilst the brush slides over the hair, avoiding any damage to, or pulling of, the hair. The invention still allows the bristles to be at an appropriate angle for a greater degree of smoothness when the device is used.

DESCRIPTION

"DEVICE WITH BRUSH FOR THE REDUCTION OF HAIR LOSS IN HAIR HYGIENE"

The present invention concerns a cylindrical device with a brush to avoid hair loss when washing and brushing one's hair for hygienic purposes. Traditional hair-brushes, despite being regularly used in hair hygiene, do not satisfy that purpose entirely because they are nearly always very rough on the scalp, resulting in high hair loss.

Nevertheless, most hair experts advise the public that to keep the head clean a brush should be used because this will offer the best results.

There are several problems related to hair loss which may result in serious diseases which only dermatologists can diagnose. Also, as is widely known, a small quantity of hair is naturally lost which later grows back in the same follicle.

Besides hair loss caused by disease, it is known that hair may be demaged in washing and easily pulled out by traditional hair-brushes. This same effect may also result from washing one's hair by hand without a brush. The scalp is a delicate tissue which requires special attention and care.

This invention seeks to solve this problem.

The device has the advantage of reducing hair loss in the washing of the head and in its brushing due to the fact that the body of the cylinder, which is connected to the top of the hair-brush, exerts pressure on the hair of the head when the brush slides over the head. So, when the cylinder rolls along the contour of the head its motion and pressure act against the harmful friction of the bristles, maintaining the bristles at an appropriate angle which allows for a greater degree of smoothness when the device is used.

The invention allows for quick and frequent washing with benefits to the hair and, at the same time, causes a healthy bloodflow throughout the scalp.

The invention consists of a set of two interconnected parts: a cylindrical body attached to the top of the brush and the brush itself.

The cylindrical body consists of an elastic membrane of impermeable rubber, or any other appropriate material, which covers an axis attached to the top of the brush by two supports fitted, in turn, to the ends of the body of the cylinder.

The central part of the axis is concave to allow the membrane, which covers

SUBSTITUTE SHEET the axis, to be suitable for any head. So, the membrane is only fixed at the ends of the axis. The underside of the top of the brush is slightly oblique to maintain the bristles at that angle, thus reducing their roughness on the scalp caused by the hardness of the bristles without losing any effectiveness. This angle changes according to the hardness of the bristles. There exist industial machines that can make brushes with bristles already at any angle of inclination, thus avoiding the inclination of the underside of the top of the brush. In this manner we can opt for one or another manufacturing process because it does not alter the essence of the invention.

Therefore, with the motion of the brush, the body of the cylinder must be in a posterior position relative to the brush and transversal to the direction of its movement. The brush must always be used with the same motion to produce the desired effect. Therefore, one can brush the hair from the nape of the neck to the forehead or vice versa thus avoidind irregular and unnecessary friction on the hair which can damage its roots.

This invention constitutes, therefore, a new method of washing and cleaning the head.

Althoug the bristles follow the body of the cylinder, and pass over the hair roots first, this does not mean that they will damage or pull out the hair. The reason for this is that when the bristles start to pull the hair due to the friction, once they have passed over the roots the body of the cylinder acts at that precise moment in pressing the hair against the scalp. In addition to this, the action is simultaneously aided by the rotation of the cylinder. Thus, the body of the cylinder 'holds' the hair whilst the brush slides over the hair, avoiding any damage to the hair.

There is a transversal handle on the brush attached at two points in such a way as to spread the manual pressure evenly on the head and facilitate the motion of the brush.

This description is accompanied by the following drawings to facilitate understanding of the invention:

Fig. 1 shows an example of a design of the brush, in accordance with the invention.

Fig. 2 shows a diagram of the body of the cylinder and the interior axis drawn in a broken line whose ends support the exterior membrane, relative to Fig. 1.

In accordance with the invention, we can see from the designs that the device with the brush for the reduction of hair loss consists of two juxtaposed parts: the body of the cylinder and the brush. For manufacturing ends the axis and

SUBSTITUTE SHEET the brush may be made of plastic, wood, bone or ivory for the fitting of components. The membrane of the body of the cylinder is fixed at the axis ends and it may be made from natural rubber.

Any specialist in this industry will have no difficulty in understanding the scope of this invention and can decide as to the best way of manufacturing the device with its brush by using the appropriate materials to ensure its effectiveness.

The shape, dimensions and materials used in manufacturing may be changed provided that they do not modify the essential parts of the invention.

The invention can be practically used in all hairdressers, coiffeurs, barbers, beauty salons and in daily hygiene of people interested in maintaining their hair clean and healthy.

Finally, the instructions for use which follow facilitate the understanding of the new and practical method of the invention.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

The hair should be brushed to one side only, for example, from the nape of the neck to the forehead.

Next, wet the hair and then put some shampoo in the palm of the hand and spread it evenly through the hair.

Slide the device in the same direction from the root to the hair-ends in such a way as to allow the cylinder to roll after the brush.

Passing the device 3 or 4 times over the same area of the head whilst exerting the appropriate pressure on the handle is sufficient for the desired effect.

For long hair the ends, which fall over the face may be washed with the hands.

Finally, rinse the head with water and dry the hair normally.

To clean and massage the scalp without water use the device in the same manner as above.

These instructions should accompany the device in the selling package to the public.

Claims

1) Device with brush for the reduction of hair loss in hair hygiene caused by brushing or manual friction, characterized by a cylindrical body which has within it an axis connected to the top of a brush and the brush itself.

2) Device, as claimed in claim 1, characterized by the fact that the axis has a central concavity or a diameter inferior to its ends.

3) Device, as claimed in claim 1 , characterized by the fact that the axis is joined to the brush by two supports at its ends.

4) Device, as claimed in claim 1 , characterized by the fact that the cover of the cylinder is, or is not, made of an elastic membrane secured at its ends.

5) Device, as claimed in claim 1 , characterized by a rotating cylindrical body or any other device able to replace the body of the cylinder in its function of sliding over the hair and "holding" the hair in the motion of the brush.

6) Device, as claimed in claim 1 , characterized by bristles which are at an oblique angle to the plane on which the brush may settle when it is in the correct position.
