Abstract

An interconnection strip for electrically connecting at least two printed circuits (16, 17). The strip is characterised in that not all the ends of the connecting pins (12) are in alignment, and the receiving holes (15) in the printed circuits (16, 17) do not form a weakened area. Said strip is particularly useful for connecting a flexible printed circuit to another (flexible or non-flexible) printed circuit, especially in an on-board electronic system for motor vehicles.

Description

Barrette d'interconnexion pour circuits imprimés Interconnection strip for printed circuits

The present invention relates to an interconnection strip adapted to electrically connect at least two printed circuits. More particularly at least one of these two circuits is a flexible printed circuit.

In the field of automotive electronics, there is an increasing effort to reduce the dimensions and the weight of electronic systems on board vehicles. To this end, printed circuits are used in particular on flexible sheet and no longer on rigid plate. However, such flexible circuits have the drawback of being more fragile than rigid circuits and in particular of tearing more easily. Furthermore, it is already known to connect two printed circuits to one another. To this end, interconnection bars are used having a plurality of aligned pins connecting each of the circuits. To connect these pins with each circuit, it is necessary to provide a plurality of receiving orifices in the circuit. These receiving holes generate a weakening zone (a line of rupture in the printed circuit). In the case of a rigid printed circuit this is not of consequence, but in the case of a flexible printed circuit this promotes a tearing of the circuit.

To overcome this drawback, the structure of the flexible printed circuit can be reinforced at its junction with the interconnection strip. But such reinforcement, even if it solves the problem of tears, runs counter to the objectives set, namely: simplification, reduction and reduction in the size and costs of the electronic systems on board a motor vehicle.

The object of the present invention is to overcome all of these drawbacks and to link together two circuits, one of which can be flexible without weakening the connection area.

To this end, the present invention relates to an interconnection strip adapted to electrically connect at least two printed circuits, said strip comprising a support housing a plurality of conductive pins each having two ends each adapted to ensure electrical contact with the 'one of the printed circuits, said strip being characterized in that the ends of the conductive pins in contact with the same printed circuit are arranged along at least two separate connection lines. Thanks to such arrangements, the realization of the pin receiving perforations does not create a breaking line and the printed circuit (especially when it is a flexible circuit) is not weakened in this junction zone.

Advantageously, by making the perforations of the printed circuit on at least two lines, the area of junction of the interconnection strip with the flexible printed circuit is enlarged, which avoids weakening the printed circuit. No specific reinforcement is then necessary.

According to a preferred embodiment, the pins connect alternately on two separate and parallel connection lines. As a variant, these connections are made regularly but not alternatively. Advantageously, the terminal strips according to the invention are produced in great length and cut to size at the time of their use. In addition, it will be noted that these bars are completely reversible. Therefore there is no preferred direction of installation which facilitates their installation.

Other objects, characteristics and advantages of the present invention will emerge from the following description, by way of non-limiting example and with reference to the appended drawings in which:

- la figure 1: est une vue schématique en perspective montrant une barrette selon l'invention;- Figure 1: is a schematic perspective view showing a bar according to the invention;

According to the embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 3 an interconnection strip 10 is constituted by a support 11 housing a plurality of conductive pins 12, in housings 13 provided for this purpose. Each pin has a general U-shape and each end 14 of this pin is adapted to fit into a corresponding receiving orifice 15 (FIG. 3) drilled in a printed circuit 16, 17.

The ends of the pins intended to be connected with the same printed circuit (for example all the ends 14 situated on the right in FIG. 3) are connected with the printed circuit 16 according to two connection lines A and B, parallel and distinct. Of course, the same is true for the ends 14 on the left in FIG. 3, which in turn connect to the printed circuit 17 along two lines A and B. It is noted that the ends 14, and 14 2 (FIG. 2 ) of two adjacent pins are each connected on a different line A or B. Thus by alternately shifting (once on the right A, once on the right B) the points of connection of the pins with the printed circuit, one avoids creating a line of rupture in the printed circuit at the level of the connection zone. As a variant, the connections between the ends of the pins and the printed circuit are made not alternately but regularly on each of the connection lines. So we can have the first three pins on the same connection line then the next two on a second connection line, and so on. Any type of combination of connection positioning is possible.

As shown in the drawings, the interconnection strip according to the present invention is entirely reversible and is produced in great length so as to be cut transversely as required. If necessary, that is to say in particular if the density of the connections requires it, the ends of the conductive pins are connected on more than two connection lines.

It will be noted that the design of the bar according to the invention makes it possible to use pins of identical dimensions for producing all the necessary offsets. Advantageously, the offset of one end of a pin (to the right for example) causes the corresponding offset of the other end of this same pin (to the left).

Of course the present invention is not limited to the embodiments described above and encompasses any variant within the reach of ordinary skill in the art. In particular, it is possible to produce the strip according to the invention by any plastic molding or overmolding process.
