Definitions
- This invention relates to a vibratory screening apparatus for screening bulk material supply into different size ranges.
- Vibratory screening apparatus can be used to screen many different types of bulk or raw material supply e.g. particulate material, such as crushed mineral, or material excavated during land clearance e.g. brick, rubble, soil and tree roots, and has one or more screens (screen deck or grid) onto which the material is deposited, and to which vibration is imparted in order to promote the separation of material smaller than a predetermined size (as determined by the screening apertures) from the deposited material, and which passes downwardly through the screening apertures for discharge to a suitable deposition or collection site, or to undergo a further screening operation on a lower screen deck or grid, and subsequent discharge of further separated "fractions" of the raw material supplied.
- particulate material such as crushed mineral, or material excavated during land clearance e.g. brick, rubble, soil and tree roots
- screens screen deck or grid
- vibration imparted in order to promote the separation of material smaller than a predetermined size (as determined by the screening apertures) from the deposited material, and which passes downwardly through
- W093/24245 One known type of vibratory screening apparatus is disclosed in W093/24245, to which attention is drawn, and which teaches, inter alia, the concept of providing a separate vibratory device on each side of the screening apparatus and which comprises a shaft end (stubshaft or projecting shaft end) projecting outwardly of the side of the apparatus and which is mounted in a pair of axially spaced bearing housings, and which has a rotating counterweight mounted on the shaft portion between the housings, and which applies required vibration energy to the screen deck / grids of the apparatus.
- This known arrangement provides a robust assembly which is able to apply substantial vibration energy to assist the screening operation.
- the present invention is concerned primarily with providing an improved frame structure, which supports the screen(s) (deck or grid), and which also provides advantageous way of mounting a respective vibrating apparatus at each side of the screen.
- a vibratory screening apparatus which comprises: a base frame; a screen-supporting structure yieldingly mounted on said base frame so as to be capable of carrying out vibrational movement relative to the base frame in order to vibrate one or more screens carried by said structure; a frame, forming part of said structure, and which is generally rectangular, as seen in plan, said frame having a front end, a rear end, and a pair of opposed sides; and, a respective shaft-driven vibratory device externally mounted on each side of said frame and operable to transmit vibrational energy to said structure thereby to vibrate said screen, each vibratory device comprising a shaft portion, a pair of axially spaced bearing housings in which said shaft portion is mounted, and a counterweight mounted on said shaft portion intermediate the bearing housings and rotatable by said shaft portion to apply vibrational energy to said structure; in which the bearing housings at each side of the frame are each mounted on a respective one of a pair of support beams extending between the front and rear ends of said frame, and said support
- the pair of support beams for each vibratory device form a robust support structure, to enable vibrational energy to be transmitted to the screen(s), and therefore the apparatus of the invention does not need to rely, in addition, upon structural strength of usual sideplates which are normally provided in screening apparatus.
- the side plates therefore are required mainly for the purposes of confining or enclosing the material to be screened e.g. to form the function of a hopper, and the structural strength of the apparatus is provided largely by the rectangular frame of the structure and including the pair of support beams on each side of the apparatus and running the length of the apparatus between the front and rear ends.
- the front and rear ends of the frame preferably comprise metal beams of required strength, and to which the support beams are rigidly secured.
- the yielding mounting between the structure and the base frame may comprise any suitable resilient mounting which allows a required amount of vibrational movement of the structure relative to the base frame.
- the yielding mounting may comprise swing arm assemblies mounted on the front and rear ends of the base frame, and coupled with mounting plates secured to side plates of the vibratory structure.
- the swing arms may include torsion bars or other means to provide resilient opposition to vibrational movement of the structure.
- Figure 1 is a side view of the vibratory screening apparatus
- Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the section line A- A in Figure 1 ;
- Figure 3 is a side view, similar to Figure 1 , illustrating further components of the apparatus;
- Figure 4 is a front view of the apparatus
- Figure 5 is a top view of the apparatus.
- Figure 6 is a bottom view of the apparatus.
- the apparatus comprises a base frame 11, and having a discharge housing 12 projecting downwardly therefrom to guide the downward movement of "fines" screened by the apparatus from bulk material supply fed to input hopper 13.
- One or more screen deck or grid are mounted in the apparatus and have screening apertures to provide required screening operation to separate the bulk material into required size ranges, and in which all of these components may be of standard construction, and therefore are not described or illustrated in detail herein.
- a screen-supporting structure designated generally by reference 14, is yieldingly mounted on the base frame 11 so as to be capable of carrying out vibrational movement relative to the base frame 11 in order to vibrate the screens which are carried by the structure 14.
- a generally rectangular frame, designated generally by reference 15, forms part of the vibrational structure 14, and has a front end 16, a rear end 17, and a pair of opposed sides 18 (see Figure 5).
- a respective shaft-driven vibratory device 19 is mounted externally on each side 18 of the frame 15, and is operable to transmit vibrational energy to the structure 14 in order to vibrate the screen or screens.
- Each vibratory device 19 comprises a shaft portion projecting outwardly of the frame side, and in the illustrated embodiment in Figure 2, the shaft portion comprises a stubshaft 20.
- This stubshaft 20 is mounted in a pair of axially spaced bearing housings 21 , and a counterweight 22 is mounted on shaft 20 for rotation therewith, in order to apply input vibrational energy to the respective side of the vibrational structure.
- each bearing housing 21 is mounted on a respective one of a pair of longitudinally extending side support beams 23 which extends the length of the apparatus between the front and rear ends 16, 17 of the frame.
- Each support beam 23 is rigidly connected at each end to perpendicularly extending metal support beams 24, by bolts as illustrated, and in order to form a rigid supporting structure which bears the major part of the load of the vibratory devices 19 in service.
- each pair of support beams 23 provides a robust support structure, to enable vibrational energy to be transmitted to the screen(s) of the apparatus, and therefore the apparatus does not need to rely upon structural- strength of usual side plates which are normally provided in screening apparatus to enclose or confine the material to be screened.
- the yielding mounting between the structure 14 and base frame 11 comprises any suitable resilient mounting which allows a required amount of vibrational movement of the structure 14 relative to the base frame 11.
- the yielding mounting comprises swing arm assembles 25 at the front and rear ends of the base frame 11 , and comprising lower swing arms 26 mounted at their lower ends on a support structure 27 at each end of the base frame 11 , and upper swing arms 28 mounted at their upper ends on support brackets 29 rigidly secured to a respective side of the structure 14.
- the lower swing arms 26 and upper swing arms 28 are coupled together in pairs, as illustrated via coupling boxes 30.
- the swing arm assemblies 25 may include torsion bars or other means to provide resilient opposition to vibrational movement of structure 14 relative the base frame 11.
