- gear box housing is bolted directly to the clutch housing and the gear box is thus a direct extension of the engine block.
- Conventional manual gear boxes have thus been able to be used for engines with up to four cylinders in a row without any problems arising with the lateral space in the engine compartment.

- extremely short gear boxes have been developed by using double countershafts, which has made it possible to have a five cylinder transversely mounted engine in an inter- mediate class automobile.

- the integrated housings 20, 23 form a single suspension device for the gear box 10 and no additional suspension device has proved necessary.

Abstract
Organe moteur pour véhicules automobiles, comprenant un moteur à combustion interne (22) doté d'un embrayage (4, 5) au niveau d'une surface terminale (21) du moteur, ainsi qu'une boîte de vitesses (10) adjacente au moteur. La boîte de vitesse est orientée de façon que l'extrémité distale de son arbre d'entrée (9) soit orientée dans la même direction qu'un arbre (6) accouplé à l'embrayage. Ce dernier entraîne, par un mécanisme de transmission supplémentaire (7, 8, 11), l'arbre d'entrée de la boîte de vitesse, laquelle est placée dans un carter (20, 23) au-dessus du mécanisme de transmission supplémentaire.
