Abstract
This invention relates to a method of identification marking of dental prostheses of plastic, a wax model, provided with teeth, of the prosthesis of a patient being created in a conventional way. According to the invention the method is characterized by the combination of the following steps: a plate embossed with the identification code of the patient is applied to a suitable place on the wax model by means of a tool (1); the wax model is placed in a mould, which is filled for instance with plaster so that a casting mould is obtained; the wax is replaced by plastic, whereby the embossed plate becomes visibly applied in the plastic. The invention also relates to a tool which is intended to be used when putting the new method into practice.
Description
METHOD OF ID-MARKING
This invention relates to a method of identification marking of dental prostheses of plastic, a wax model, provided with teeth, of the prosthesis of a patient being created in a conventional way. The invention also relates to a new tool, which is intended to be used for the new method. Identification marking of prostheses by means of personal numbers is made in
Sweden after a request from the National Swedish Social Welfare Board. The reasons for that is partly that it shall be helpful during identification in accidental cases, partly be helpful for the nursing staff when the oral hygiene can not be made by the wearers of the the prostheses. When manufacturing a dental prosthesis for a patient, the dental technician creates a final model of wax provided with teeth. This model is shown to the dentist of the patient, who gives after consultation with this one his acceptance from an aesthetical and functional point of view.
After this moment a final preparation of the prosthesis is made which is carried out by the dental technician and means that the wax is exchanged for plastic. This is made in that way that the wax prosthesis is put into a mould which is then filled with for instance plaster so that a casting mould is obtained. Thereafter all wax is removed by warm water, whereas the teeth of the wax prosthesis are kept fastened in the plaster. Next step means that the dental technician fills the vacant space after the wax with plastic. In this connection plastic is forced into the mould by a suitable plastic injection device. After this moment the mould is subjected to boiling under pressure, whereby the plastic is hardened. Thereafter, the prosthesis with surrounding plaster is taken away from the mould so that the plaster can be removed from the prosthesis.
The final prosthesis shall now be identification marked with the identification code of the patient. This is made by the fact that a slot is ground in the prosthesis and in this slot is laid an embossed plate with the identification code of the patient. The plate is then covered with cold-curing, transparent plastic.
As is apparent from above this procedure with the identification marking is unnecessarily complicated. This invention intends to simplify the identification marking of prostheses. This has been made possible by a method, which has the characterizing features according to claim 1, and which shall be described more closely below with reference to the accompanying drawing disclosing a tool which is suitable to use when putting the new method into practice.
As has been mentioned previously the prosthesis accepted by the dentist and the
patient is in the form of a wax model. The new method means that the plate embossed with the identification code is applied at a suitable place on the wax model of the pro¬ sthesis by means of a plastic tool 1, which suitably has the design of a T-profile. The plate is fastened on the plastic tool in that way that when applying the plate on the wax model of the prosthesis, the plastic tool will also be fixed on the wax model. When the wax model has been applied into the mould and this one has been filled with plaster, the plaster will surround not only the wax model but also the plastic tool. This means that a part of the plastic tool will be represented in the plaster portion after the wax having been replaced with plastic in the mould and the manufacture of the prosthesis having according- ly been completed, whereas the embossed plate is well visibly applied in the prosthesis. The T-designed plastic tool has a roof-formed part 2, which is arranged for holding the embossed plate in place. For this purpose the part 2 has two projecting portions 3 and 4, between which the embossed plate accordingly is intended to be positioned. The plastic tool 1 also comprises a shaft-formed part 5, the purpose of which is to contribute to the fixation of the tool and the plate in the mould.
The choice of the plastic material for this tool is made in cooperation with the social authorities of respective country. The requirements that the plastic material shall satisfy are that it shall be transparent and orally acceptable. That part of the plastic tool that will be left, when the manufacture of the prosthesis is completed and the prosthesis is polished, is only the roof 2 with the embossed plate.
The plastic tool 1 is suitably manufactured by continuous casting or moulding. Another advantage with the new invention is that is reduces the risk of contact allergies which can come up by the presence of monomeres in the plastic. In cold-curing plastic, which according to known technique is used for fastening the plate with the identification code in the prosthesis, the presence of rest-monomeres is a known fact. In contrast to this the rest-monomeres are eliminated in plastics which are hardened by a controlled heating.
