  • Elongated roller 12 includes a hollow, concave, flexible cylinder 30 having a sealed chamber 32 and a central bore 34 therethrough, with a plurality of small, dome-shaped protrusions 36 formed on the circumference 38 of the * cylinder 30.
  • the cylinder 30 is adapted to fit or conform to various body parts 26 of the second person 28, and thus maximize surface contact when a massaging action is being applied.
  • a freezing gel or fluid temperature retaining substance 14 having a high, specific heat coefficient forms a thermal-liquid system 38 within the sealed chamber 32 of the cylinder 30.
  • the thermal-liquid system 30 can be cooled to keep the cylinder 30 in the cold state during use due to the heat capacity of the chamber and the gel or fluid.
  • the thermal-liquid system can be heated to keep the cylinder 30 in an elevated temperature, or hot state during use, due to the heat capacity of the thermal-liquid system.
  • Handle 16 includes an elongated spindle 40, which is longer in length than the length of the central bore 34 through the cylinder 30.
  • spindle 40 When spindle 40 is inserted within central bore 34, each distal end 42, 44 of the spindle 40 extends from an opposite side 18, 20 of the cylinder 30 to be grasped by a hand 24 of the first person 22.
  • a collar 46 is affixed to the spindle 40 inwardly from the first distal end 42. When the spindle 40 is inserted within the central bore 34 of the cylinder 30, collar 46 will be near a first side 18 of the cylinder 30.
  • An adjustable clamp 48 includes a sleeve 50 with a set-screw 52, and is adapted to slide upon the spindle 40 inwardly from the second distal end 44 to be near a second side 20 of the cylinder 30, so that the cylinder 30 can rotate on the spindle 40 and be removed from the spindle 40 when needed.
  • the person can simply insert the roller 12 within a freezer to lower the temperature of the thermal-liquid system 38, if a cold temperature is desired.
  • the roller 12 can be placed within a microwave oven or boiling water to heat the thermal-liquid system 38 to raise its temperature to a desired temperature for use as a hot massager.
  • Spindle 40 is preferably removed when heating or cooling the cylinder, and later reinserted through the central bore 34 of the cylinder 30.
  • Sleeve 50 is then inserted into the distal end 44 of spindle 40 and tightened with set- screw 52 to retain the clamp 48 in place.
  • Distal ends 42 and 44 can then be grasped by the hands 24 of the first person 22 and the roller 12 may then be applied and rolled onto the body parts 26 of the second person 28, when either in a prone position or in a sitting position.

Abstract

Appareil de massage thérapeutique comprenant un rouleau (12) allongé qui renferme une substance permettant de prolonger le temps pendant lequel ledit rouleau (12) allongé reste froid ou chaud par rapport à la température ambiante; une poignée (16) qui dépasse des côtés opposés du rouleau (12) allongé de sorte qu'une personne puisse saisir facilement ladite poignée (16) avec ses deux mains et appliquer le rouleau (12) allongé sur les différentes parties du corps du patient qui nécessitent un massage thérapeutique.
