Abstract

The invention relates to a process for producing an adhesive for bonding layers of paper in which an adhesive concentrate is first diluted to 1:10 and then reacted with an activating reagent, especially a base. In addition, the invention relates to an adhesive concentrate which can be used in the production of such an adhesive. The adhesive concentrate contains a polyhydroxy component or polyvinyl ester compound and a thickening agent, especially an acrylic acid polymer. By addition to the diluted adhesive concentrate of a base, the thickening agent is neutralised and becomes active, whereby the viscosity of the adhesive is set and can be adapted to each use. The process of the invention is economical and provides an adhesive with variable viscosity, solid body content and adhesive power. It is used especially in the production of tissue paper layers, particularly domestic and toilet paper.
