  • the internal combustion four-stroke engines currently use heads which operate by the alternative principle, i.e., the opening and closing operation of the cylinder is performed by means of an axle of cams which accomplishes an alternate movement to the intake and exhaustion valves, in order to provide the stages of admission, compression, combustion/expansion and scavenging of gases from the inside of the cylinder.
  • This type of head is compounded by a variety of parts, which require thorough accuracy during manufacturing and quality control processes. As a consequence, during operation of the engine, much is required from these parts, making them prone to premature wear, what will result in extensive adjustments and maintenance. Therefore, it can be seen that, with this type of head, costs are high, not only during manufacturing, but also during operation, and it also imposes an increase of passive losses to the engine, caused by friction of a high number of parts, leading to an increase in fuel consumption.
  • cylinder head rotary valves for internal combustion four-stroke engines is a component which can be used in internal combustion four-stroke engines, and which aims to facilitate the intake of the air-fuel mixture, or only air in the case of Diesel engines, and the scavenging of burnt gases from the interior of the cylinder, as well as provide pressure tightness of the combustion chamber during the stages of compression and combustion/expansion, through the use of a single axle of rotary valves, Figure 2, housing the cylindrical rotary valves for exhaustion (23), and admission (25), operating in a rotating movement, and housed horizontally in a head (1) and (2).

It can be seen that the general disposition of the head, proposed in the present invention, does not alter the operating principle of the cylindrical rotary valve head, since the ratio of 4:1 (four to one) between the crankshaft rotation and the rotation of the axle of cylindrical rotary valves remains, the movement transmission being by means of a toothed belt.
