Abstract

A microculture slide is disclosed which preferably consists of two cells adapted to contain the culture ground and be directly placed under the eye-piece of a microscope.

Description

Microculture slide ready for use
Analysis requiring the development of a microculture have been hitherto carried out by using flat slides coated by the analyst with the culture ground and enclosed in a container all the time needed by the microorganisms to
05 grow at the most suitable temperature after the product to be analyzed has been smeared thereon.
After such lapse of time the colony of the microorganism is taken by a handle of platinum or adhesive tape, placed onto another slide, and brought to the microscope for the
10 readout.
The present industrial invention seeks to provide a slide shaped like a multiple little bowl so as to enclose the culture ground and provided with a cap so that it can be 15 allowed to rest and then placed under the eye-piece of the microscope.
The slide of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings according to an illustrative, non-limitative 20 embodiment.
Figs. 1 and 2 show a plan and a section view of the object of the invention, respectively;
25 Fig. 3 shows an axonometric view of the slide.
f
~ With reference to the drawings the slide of the invention is formed of a little bowl, preferably a two-receptacle bowl, including a base 1 carrying the receptacles 2 and 3 provided with a knurled bottom and side walls 4 delimiting the base surface and the height of the bowl so as to form a reservoir.
A cap 5 covering the receptacles but not the residual base portion 6 serving as handle to carry the slide can be applied to the such reservoir.
The material of the bowls is transparent and the height of the same is designed so as to allow the bowls to be directly focused by the microscope.
By using the slide according to the above description the culture ground can be in advance placed in both receptacles. The analyst will smear the product to be analyzed and then cover the bowl with the cap, thus allowing the microculture to grow.
For the analysis the slide will be directly brought under the microscope without any further handling and with the cap still applied thereon.
The two receptacles plus the cap have a thickness (height) which is compatible with the focusing of the microscope so that the colonies growing in the feeding ground contained in the receptacles can be observed with large magnification.
The bottom of both receptacles has a number of protuberances so that the ground cannot slip off upon smearing.
The analyst should not uncover the slide so that there is no danger that the microorganisms can spread over the en iron en .
The construction made of two separate receptacles allows two different culture grounds, the first selective the second elective, to be prepared.
Shape and construction modifications of the present invention -in particular the bowls can be single or multiple- can be made without departing from the scope of the invention as summarized in the following claims.

Claims

Claims
1. A microculture slide wherein it comprises a bowl and a cap which can be applied thereon.
2. The slide of the preceding claim, wherein it can be formed by only one bowl.
3. The slide of the preceding claims, wherein the bowl can be divided in two or more receptacles.
« The slide of the preceding claims, wherein the height of the receptacles and the thickness of the covering cap are such as to allow the product contained therein to be focused by the microscope.
5- The slide of the preceding claims, wherein the bottom is knurled in order to retain the culture ground.
6. The slide of the preceding claims, wherein it has a side base portion serving as handle to carry the slide.
7. The slide of the preceding claims, wherein the construction material is transparent.
