Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a slide arrestor or slip arrestor of the kind which is intended to prevent the sliding or slipping of loads, particularly corrugated board packages or goods wrapped in other soft packaging materials, and which includes a plate that is provided on two surfaces thereof with outwardly projecting pins which engage the load packaging material.
  • Slide arrestors of the aforesaid kind are known, for instance, from US, A, 1 953 303 and EP, Al, 0 270 343, according to which plates having pins which project outwardly from two sides thereof are inserted between stacked goods.
  • edge guard i.e. a device of L-shape configuration which protects the edges of the goods from damage during banding operations.
  • This guard cannot be used, however, as a slide arrestor between mutually superposed goods, and neither is it provided with means which will ensure that the band, or strap, will be held in engagement with the slide arrestor.
  • One object of the invention is to eliminate at least partially the drawbacks of earlier known slide arrestors and to provide a slide arrestor which can be used to prevent goods which are stacked one upon the other and adjacent one another from sliding apart and also to protect the edges of the goods and to ensure that the bands or straps used to secure the goods will not damage the goods or slip off the slide arrestor.
  • Figure 1 is a perspective view of loaded pallet where the various packages are prevented from sliding or slipping with the aid of an inventive slide arrestor;
  • Figure 2 is a top view of the inventive slide arrestor
  • Figure 3 is a side view if the arrestor shown in Figure 2.
  • Figure 4 shows the arrestor of Figs 2 and 3 when folded.
  • a pallet P carries goods in the form of mutually stacked and mutually adjacent packages E, such as parallel- epipedic board or corrugated board packages.
  • the inventive slide arrestor is used partly to prevent adjacent packages from sliding horizontally relative to one another, such as sliding of the packages El and E2 at B in Fig 1, partly to prevent superposed packages from being displaced horizontally in relation to one another, such as relative sliding of the packages E2 and E3 at B in Fig. 1, and partly to prevent the upper edges of the uppermost packages, such as E4, from being damaged by the banding or strapping D used to secure the packages on the pallet P, and also partly to hold the strapping D in a correct position on the slide arrestor, as shown at C in Fig. 1.
  • the slide arrestor 1 is a one-piece plastic structure and comprises a rectangular plate from which pins or studs 2 extend on two mutually opposite flat sides thereof. Although any desired number of studs may be used, it has been found that eight studs on each side of the plate will produce an optimal effect, provided that the studs are disposed in the manner shown m the drawings. f*
  • the studs are cylindrical and are pointed at their ends remote from the plate, so that the ends of the studs are able to penetrate the packaging material easily and thereafter be held firmly in said material.
  • the plate 1 is foldable about a weakening in the form of a V-shaped groove 3 which divides the plate into two equal parts la and lb.
  • the thickness of the plate along the groove 3 is sufficient to prevent the plate from bending willingly along the weakening or groove but sufficiently small to allow the plate to be bent through an angle of at least 90°, as shown in Fig 4, or to allow the plate to be divided into its respective halves and obtain the form shown at A in fig 1, without needing to apply undue force in the process.
  • the arrestor plate When the inventive slide arrestor 1 is to be used to prevent sliding between two packages which lie side-by-side, the arrestor plate is placed flat across the packages, so that one half la of the plate will lie on top of one package and the other half, lb, will lie on top of the other package, whereafter pressure is applied to said halves from above, so that the studs 2 will penetrate the packaging material. This is shown at B in Fig. 1.
  • the slide arrestor shown at B in Fig. 1 will also function to prevent sliding of packages that are placed on top of the arrestor plate, wherein the upstanding pegs 2 on the upper surface of the plate will penetrate the packaging material of said packages as they are placed on the plates on the underlying packages.
  • the arrestor plate 1 can be divided into its respective halves la and lb and any one of said halves can be placed on such packages in the manner shown at A in Fig. 1.
  • the arrestor plate When the arrestor is to be used to protect the edges of the packages from damage by the banding or strapping used, the arrestor plate is bent to an L-shape, as shown in Fig. 4 and also at D in Fig. 1, and is placed over the horizontal edge of a package, such as the package E4 in Fig. 1.
  • the banding or strapping D is then brought around the upper part of the pallet P, the mutually superposed packages E and the slide arrestors 1, it being ensured that the strapping is located in the channel formed between the studs 2 and extending at right angles to the groove 3.
  • the studs 2 When tightening the strapping D, the studs 2 will prevent the strapping from sliding from the arrestor plate 1 while allowing the strapping to be adjusted horizontally along the edge of the package, by moving the arrestor plate along said edge.
  • the arrestor plate l guards the edge of.the package from damage by the strapping D as it is tightened, and when the strapping has been tightened sufficiently to cause the studs 2 to penetrate the packaging material, the action of the studs will prevent both the arrestor plate and the strapping from slipping along said edge.
