Definitions

  • This invention relates to machines for forming and treating pulp or stock or the like materials, preferably paper and board pulp or stock in machines having a so called wire, an endless band of permeable felt wire, upon which the pulp or stock is deposited as a web and moved forwardly under de-watering caused by suction or vacuum boxes arranged below the path of the wire and acting on the web through the wire. During the passage the web is made even and smoothed out as well as de-watered.
  • a dandy roll or a closed loop wire is arranged above the wire path (just mentioned) with vacuum box devices adjacent such dandy roll or wire loop. Said dandy roll or wire loop engaging the top side of the web deposited onto the endless wire band for making the surface of the web more even.
  • the object of this invention is to devise a new top wire arrangement based on the existing ones but having a unique processing approach as a consequence of the equipment configuration and positioned component features, facilitating even distribution of the fibers of the web thus equilizing the thickness of the web of stock or pulp deposited on the wire thereby creating a higher quality end product having smooth faces on both sides and higher tearing strength.
  • a further object with the invention's function is to increase machine capacity (wire).
  • the arrangement allows for high de-watering in an upward direction supplementing existing devices and consequently results in an increased consistency of the web enabling an increase in machine speed of the order of 6%.
  • Control resolution with the invention provides a means of controlling the weight in grams per square meter.
  • the new arrangement is constructed so as to create as little damming up or blocking of the wet pulp or stock web as possible and consequently permit a smooth entry and travel of the web in below the upper wire loop. This is achieved by letting the loop pass between two rolls characterized by either 1 or 2 dandy rolls arranged in sequence. The latter adjacent the upper face of the forming wire and web carried thereon, and displacably or adjustably arranged so as to engage the upwardly facing side of the web with a predeter ⁇ mined pressure and by arranging below the web carrying wire at least two vacuum boxes remote from each other and adjacent the rolls and one vacuum box above the wire loop between the rolls and acting through the wire loop portion running above and engaging the pulp or stock web.
  • the first loop wire carrying roll engaged has a perforated mantle giving little resistance to water pressed out of the web allowing the water to transfer into the interior of the roll thus facilitating a reduction of the height or thickness of the web of pulp on the forming wire.

  • the suction opening of the box 25a being the first to encounter the moving pulp or stock web on the wire 1 is rather short seen in the direction of movement and is intended to keep a water barrier stationary at the leading edge of the vacuum box device 25 intended to function as a liquid sealing preventing the sucking in of air into the box chambers thereby reducing the function of the vacuum chambers. It is essential to keep such a water barrier all the times during the operation of a wire machine.
