  • the building blocks 17 on the fixed side of the joint are butted against the anchor plate 1, whilst on the expansion side the blocks 17 are butted against the filler strips 12 so as to compress the latter and enable them to expand again and maintain the joint closed, when the wall shrinks.
  • the anchor plate 1 is formed in a relatively short section, for example, just over one metre in length, and two or more anchor plates 1 may simply be butted together, end to end, to accommodate construction joints in walls of greater height than an individual plate.
  • Fixing holes 19 are provided along the length of the anchor plate for use when the plate is to be used for the formation of a construction joint between an existing structure, such as a column, and an adjacent wall.
  • the perforated ties are not used and the plate is fastened with its fixed side against the face of the exist ⁇ ing structure which is drilled and plugged to receive fixing elements, such as, bolts, engaged through the holes 19.
  • the embodiment illustrated in Figures 4 and 5 has an anchor plate 21 formed with a profiled cross section defining the required thickness of the finished construc ⁇ tion joint.
  • the plate 21 has a central longi ⁇ tudinal channel 22 of rectangular cross section. This channel may, for example, have a depth of 10mm and serves as a stop during formation of a construction joint so as to define the required thickness for the finished joint.
  • the ties 2,3 used with this embodiment are identical to the ties used in the first embodiment and the sockets 23 for mounting the ties are formed on the inside of the bottom of the channel 22.
  • the sockets are of similar construction to those of the first embodiment and similarly to the latter, rectangular openings 24 are provided in the bottom of the channel intermediate the sockets 23 to enable the sockets to be accessed from opposite sides.
  • Compressible filler strips 12 are bonded to the longitudinal flange portions 25 on opposite sides of the channel 22 and these flange portions are perforated to allow for expansion of intumescent material of the filler strips in the event of fire.
  • Figures 4 and 5 may be used to form a vertical construction joint along the run of a brick or masonry wall in a similar manner to that described with reference to Figure 3.
  • the flange portions 25 of the anchor plate 21 are arranged to abut one side of the joint and the outside bottom wall of the channel 22 abuts the opposite side of the joint during the construction of the wall so as to determine the thickness of the joint.
  • the filler strips 12 are of greater thickness than the depth of the channel 22 so that they are compressed during construc ⁇ tion of the wall.
  • each cleat 26 has a hook portion 27 which hooks over the lower edge of a rectangular opening 24 in the channel bottom, and the main body 28 of the cleat is inserted in the socket and has an offset portion 29 which, when the cleat is positioned is substantially flush with the rear faces of the flange portions 25.
  • the offset portion has a hole 30 which, when the cleat is positioned may be accessed through an opening 24 so that the cleat can be fastened to the face of the existing structure, which is drilled and plugged,- by a bolt or other fixing element inserted through the hole 30 into the existing structure.
  • Figures 7 and 8 illustrate another embodiment comprising an anchor plate 31 of profiled cross section.
  • the plate has a central longitudinal channel 32 of dovetail cross section which not only serves to determine the thickness of the finished construction joint but also affords means for attaching the ties 3,33 to the anchor plate.
  • the ties 33 (only one is shown) on the fixed side of the anchor plate are formed from sheet material and comprise a perforated tongue 34 having a dovetail portion 35 at its inner end of complementary shape to the dovetail cross section of the channel 32.
  • the dovetail portion 35 is folded back underneath itself to strengthen the portion of the tie.
  • the tie is attached to the anchor plate by inclining it to the horizontal about its longitudinal axis so as to insert the dovetail portion 35 into the channel 32, whereupon the tie is twisted into its horizontal position thereby engaging the dovetail portion 35 with the channel.
  • the ties 33 are attachable to the channel 32 at any selected positions along the length of the anchor plate 31.
  • the ties 3 on the expansion side of the plate 31 are identical to the ties 3 of the preceding embodiments . They are attached to the anchor plate 31 b simply insert ⁇ ing the flange portion 9 through a selected one of a plu ⁇ rality of rectangular openings 36 formed at closely spaced regular intervals through the bottom of the channel 32 so as to engage the flange portion with the inside bottom of the channel.
  • the angled sides of the channel retain the flange portion located within the channel and the tongue projecting perpendicularly from the anchor plate, whilst the bottom horizontal edge of the associated opening 36 abuts the underneath of the tongue 5 to limit downward movement of the tie.
  • Figures 7 and 8 may be used to form a construction joint in a similar manner to that described with reference to the embodiment of Figures 4 and 5 and, when it is used in a construction joint adjoining an existing structure, it may be connected to the existing structure by a cleat similar to that illustrated in Figure
  • compressible filler ⁇ strips 12 are bonded to the flange portions 37 on opposite sides of the channel 32 and perforations 14 are formed in these flange portions to accommodate expansion of intumes ⁇ cent material used in the filler strips.

  • the embodiment of Figures 9 and 10 may be used to form a vertical construction joint in the run of a wall in a similar manner to the previous embodiments save that the ties 42,43 are already fixed in predetermined positions to the anchor plate 41.
  • the ties 42,43 having been stamped or punched from the material of the plate, may be left substantially flush with the bottom wall 44 of the channel 45 until required for use, whereupon they are bent into their projecting positions on opposite sides of the plate.

Abstract

Un dispositif servant à former un joint de construction vertical dans un mur de briques ou de parpaings (16) comprend une plaque d'ancrage (1) constituée par une bande de matériau métallique et des tirants métalliques (2, 3) qui sont fixés sur les côtés opposés de la plaque d'ancrage pour former une saillie à partir de celle-ci et se noyer dans le mortier entre les assises contiguës des parties du mur situées sur les côtés opposés de la plaque d'ancrage. Les tirants (2) formant saillie sur l'un des côtés comportent des languettes perforées pour se caler dans le mortier et résister au déplacement de la plaque d'ancrage, et les tirants (3) situés sur le côté opposé possèdent des languettes plates permettant un déplacement longitudinal relatif de la partie contiguë du mur tout en assurant une stabilité latérale. Les tirants (2, 3) sont fixés à la plaque d'ancrage par l'intermédiaire de brides recourbées à angle droit vers les extrémités intérieures des languettes et pouvant s'introduire dans des logements ou des prises en forme de fente situés à intervalles réguliers le long d'une partie longitudinale centrale de la plaque d'ancrage. Des bandes de matériau de remplissage compressible (12) adhèrent aux brides longitudinales latérales de la plaque d'ancrage pour fermer le joint.
