- the air-flow principle involves a centrifugal fan or blower, wherein the inlet air is supplied into the centre of said fan through separate air openings. Since the powerful air current carries the mown grass to the outer fringes of a cutting space, the grass is not chopped into a fine mash leading to an unsatisfactory result without the use of a collector.
- Another drawback is that the con ⁇ tinuous use of a collector produces a substantial amount of cut waste whose composting is a problem. In addition, the lawn gets poorer with no fertilizer coming from cut grass. Another drawback is that the powerful air flow produces dust and noise and, furthermore, a collecting lawn mower cannot be used on a renewed and weak or just 'fertilized lawn because of a powerful air current. On the " other hand, a collecting lawn mower offers the bene- fit of cleaning the lawn of trash, tree leaves, twigs etc. It also collects the cut grass in a collecting container and chops larger leaves and trash to thorough ⁇ ly fill the container.
- An object of the invention is to improve such a prior known collecting lawn mower in a manner that, if necess ⁇ ary, it can be converted into a so-called bio-mower.

- the collecting lawn mowers are constructed in a manner that the collecting container is located in the trailing section of a machine.
- the container is readily removable and the body of a machine is usually provided with a separate gate which closes a passage to the blade chamber whenever the container is detached. If necessary, such a gate can be used in itself as an outlet duct shut-off means. Closing of the outlet duct alone does not, however, produce a desired effect since the air flowing through air inlets causes the mown grass to move to the fringe of a cutting space and to travel below the edges of a machine out of said cutting space, which results in heavy dusting.

- Fig. 2 is a corresponding view of a collecting lawn mow ⁇ er without a blowing device, wherein a necessary air cur- rent is produced by a suitable selection of the blade angle of a tip element 3 included in a blade 2 , the primary air current developing as indicated by an arrow B carrying the grass the same way as in fig 1 towards the fringe sections of a blade chamber 9 and further through an outlet into a collecting container.
- Fig. 3 shows a similar mower as fig. 1 with a shut-off means 6 closed, the primary air current building up according to an arrow C carrying the mown grass in cutting space 9 upwards and towards the centre, wherein it is allowed to fall on top of blade element 2 which chops it further to as finely powdered form as possible.
- the shut-off means 6 shown in figs. 1 - 3 may comprise e.g. an electrically controlled air valve, e.g. a mag ⁇ netic valve or a motor-operated valve. Such a valve can be readily controlled in a centralized manner from a control panel.

Abstract
Tondeuse à gazon à collecteur d'herbes munie d'au moins un orifice d'admission d'air (5) situé sensiblement dans le plan de rotation d'une lame (2, 3), ou au-dessus de celui-ci, ainsi que d'au moins un orifice de sortie d'air menant à un récipient collecteur d'herbes. La tondeuse comprend également un dispositif (3, 4) générateur d'un écoulement d'air destiné à porter les brins d'herbe sectionnés à travers l'orifice de sortie et jusque dans le récipient collecteur. Ledit orifice d'admission d'air (5) est doté d'un dispositif obturateur (6) destiné à limiter, au besoin, l'écoulement d'air.
