Abstract

Means for adjustable attachment of door frames or window sashes to adjacent building members comprises a sleeve with external threads and a screw with threads of the same pitch. The screw (3) is inserted in the ferrule (1) by being brought transversely to the longitudinal direction of the ferrule into a recess (7) having a groove (8) which will hold the screw (3) by means of a collar (9) on same against relative motion of the screw and ferrule axially while the screw and ferrule are rotatable in relation to each other.

Description

MEANS FOE ADJUSTABLE ATTACHMENT OF DOOR FRAMES AND WINDOW SASHES TO ADJACENT BUILDING MEMBERS.
The present invention relates to means for adjustabl attachment of door frames and window sashes to adjacen building members in the wall surrounding openings for window and doors. It comprises an attachment screw which is adapte to be screwed into the building members from the frames o sashes, and a ferrule which is rotatable on the screw withou being actually displaceable on same and the ferrule i adapted to be screwed into the frame or sash, the screw an the ferrule having external threads with the same pitch fo simulatenous screwing of both parts by means of a suitabl tool which when rotated will rotate the screw and the ferrul as a unit.
Several embodiments of means of this kind are previousl known, i.a. from Norwegian Patent No. 137.833, and Swedis Patent Nos. 216.085 and 441.024. A disadvantage encounte with the previously known embodiments is that they ar finally assembled by the manufactury and when for exampl doors are to be mounted, the workers doing the job will hav to bring a large number of complete, ready made means wit screws of differents lengths, so that the means will fit th conditions in each case. The result is extra costs involve in the production means of dimensions which perhaps are no very much used and as they are complete with screw an ferrule they will require storage space over longer times an they may also result in bottlenecks in the production o means of dimensions which are used in large numbers. On building site delays may be caused by the fact that th workers suddenly are in possesion of a number of attachmen means with screws which for example are too short whil attachment means with screws of other dimensions are lacking The result can easily be that for example a door frame whic should have been attached adjustably is mounted in the ol fashioned way be means of nails and therefore possibilities for permanent distortions and deformations which are difficult to correct some time in the future. The purpose of the present invention is to provide means for adjustable mounting and attachment of door frames or window sashes, of the kind referred to above, where the manufacture of the said means will be drastically simplified and where ferrule and screw, when the means is to be used are brought together by simple manipulation and are locked together during the screwing operation with a suitable tool which very well may be a well known key with hexagonal external shape fitting into the ferrule and an internal socket with hexagonal cross section corresponding to the hexagonal end of the screw. In accordance with the invention, this is achieved by providing the ferrule over a certain part of its length with a recess in the wall of the ferrule. One end of the screw can be inserted into the ferrule by movement transversely of the centerline or axis of the device. A collar on the screw will, when it is inserted in the ferrule slide into a groove in the recess so that ferrule and screw are locked together in the longitudinal direction. The curved part of the U- shaped groove has a center on the axis of the ferrule and a key of the type indicated above, will when it is inserted in the hexagonal socket in the ferrule and fits over the hexagonal end of the screw, lock, screw and ferrule together so that they can be screwed into door frame and adjacent building member as a unit in bores drilled in advance.
The invention is characterized by the features given in the claims and will now be explained more in detail with reference to the drawings on which:
Figure 1 is a side view of an attachment means according to the invention,
Figure 2 is a section through a ferrule which is one part of the attachment means, and Figure 3 and 4 are sections taken along the lines III-III and IV-IV respectively.
The attachment means comprises as shown on figure 1 a ferrul with external threads 2, and a screw 3 with threads 4. Th pitches of the threads 2 and 4 are equal so that ferrule and screw 4 simultaneously can be screwed into bores in th frame and the adjacent building member. This can be done b means of a tool which fits into the hexagonal socket 5 in th ferrule 1 at the same time fits the hexagonal end 6 of th screw 3. In order to assemble the screw and ferrule in simple manner at the moment the attachment or mounting of th door frame is to be carried out, the ferrule is provided wit a recess 7 which enables the upper part of the screw 3 to b Inserted. The recess is also provided a groove which wil receive a collar on the screw. This is more clearly shown o figure 2 where the ferrule 1 shown in section. The recess is in this example removed from the side wall of the ferrul 1 in a milling operation and the groove 8 is clearly seen The shape of the groove 8 is shown on figure 3, which is section taken along the line III-III on figure 1. 8 fits the collar 9 on the screw while the recess 7 shown o figure 4 as the section IV-IV on figure 1 matches th remaining part of the screw 3. The upper end of the scre with the collar 9 is inserted in the ferrule 1 in th direction indicated by the arrow 10 on figure 2 so that th collar 9 is received in the groove 8 and will lock ferrule and screw 3 together against relative motion in the axia direction while screw and ferrule can be rotated relatively The groove 8 is as shown on figure 3 U-shaped and the cente for the curved part is on the center line of the ferrule s that also the screw 3 will aligned with the center line enabling the ferrule and screw to be screwed into frame an building member with a suitable tool. 9 and the ferrule 1 can be mass produced with modern hi pressure casting processes. The previously required assembl work the manufacturer had to do is avoided and only a simple manipulation will bring a screw 3 of the length required in each case together with the ferrule 1 as shown on figure 2. When mounting or attaching doors and windows in places with varying spaces between doors and windows and the adjacent building member it will therefore only be necessary to bring a reasonable number of ferrules and screws of different lengths when the work is to be done.

Claims

P a t e n t C l a i s.
1. Means for adjustable attachment of door frames o window sashes to adjacent building members, comprising a attachment screw adapted to be screwed into said buildin member, and a ferrule (1) which are to be rotatable withou relative axial displacement on the screw (3), said screw (3 and ferrule (1) having external threads of the same pitch, c h a r a c t e r i z e d i n that the ferrule (1) over part of the length of the side wall is provided with a reces (7) matched to the diameter of the screw (3) and in that th recess (7) is provided with a U-shaped groove (8) in a plan perpendicular to the axis of the ferrule (1) for reception o collar (9) on the screw (3) when the screw is brought int place in the ferrule (1) by inserting one end of the screw i the ferrule transverse to its axis.

Means as claimed in claim 1, c h a r a c t e r i z e d i n that the dimensions of th groove (8), its distance from the end of the ferrule (1), th dimensions of the collar (9) and its loaction on th hexagonal end of the screw (3) are matched so that th ferrule (1) and screw (3) are locked together when a too known per see is inserted in the hexagonal socket (5) of th ferrule.
3. Means as claimed in claim 1 and 2, c h a r a c t e r i z e d i n that the center for th curved part of the U-shaped groove is on the axis of th ferrule (1).
