Abstract

Teeming control apparatus (10) comprises an outlet duct (15) installable e.g. in a tundish (11) and providing at least one exit opening (24). Movable in the duct is a valve member (16) having an enlargement (20) at one end cooperable with a valve seat (18) at the mouth or inlet end of the duct, to open or close the duct (15) to entry of melt from the tundish. The valve member (16) is configured at its other end (26) so as to vary the effective size of the exit opening(s) (24) and thereby provide control over the teeming flow rate from the apparatus.
