Definitions

  • the present invention relates to protected cannulas preferably for sampling blood.
  • the cannulas and corresponding equipment used for sampling blood and injecting therapeutic liquids are in many cases of disposable type, i.e. they are discarded after use. This causes problems when handling used and polluted cannulas since the sharp needles of the cannula can injure the staff member handling it. This entails the risk of an infectious virus, e.g. an HIV or hepatitis virus being transmitted to the staff member, as a result of small blood residues on the cannula from an infected patient who has been treated being transmitted to the staff member.
