Definitions
- a protection cap for gas bottles is provided.
- This invention relates to a protective cap for removably covering the valve fitted top end portion of a cylinder or bottle for LPG gas or a similar container having a screw threaded neck portion, from a central area of which a valve structure projects, the cap being a substantially cylindrical member, the lower ⁇ most interior side portion of which is screw threaded so as to be engageable with said screw threaded neck portion of the container.
- a protective cap which has to be mechanically highly resistant and correspondingly well anchored to - the gas cylinder.
- steel caps which are firmly screwn onto the cylinder neck portions.
- the cap member according to the invention is cha ⁇ racterized in that it is made of a semi resilient ar- tificial material and that the said lower end of the cap is constituted by a plurality of circumferentially spaced tongue portions projecting downwardly from the cylindrical main portion of the cap through a distance longer than the axial extension of the neck engaging screw threadings.
- the cap mem ⁇ ber will be usable in a well defined manner even on a somewhat broader cylinder neck, because the said tongue portions are able to yield resiliently outwardly and still engage the screw threading of the cylinder neck portion.
- the cap When made of a suitable artificial material such as polycarbonate the cap will be unable to get stuck to the steel cylinder neck by virtue of rust, and the broad and high slots between the tongue por ⁇ tions will serve not only to enable the tongue portions to be bent outwardly as required for adaption to a re- latively broad cylinder neck portion, but additionally to ensure a free ventilation of the space inside the cap such that residue gas cannot be collected in this ' space. Moreover the material of the cap will clearly counteract the formation of sparks, and it will be unable to stick to the steel neck portion of the cylin ⁇ der by way of any type of corrosion.
- a suitable artificial material such as polycarbonate
- the cap according to the invention will be cheap to manufacture, and another important advantage is that it will be mountable on the cylinder neck portion by a simple axial displacement, without having to be rotated, because the said tongue portions will yield outwardly by such displacement and finally engage the screw threading of. the cylinder neck portion in a well defined manner.
- the cap is thereafter un- screwable from the cylinder neck portion, and since the cap is preferably die cast it is conveniently provided with exterior protrusions or ribs, which are easily gripped by suitable means for rotating the cap out of engagement with the cylinder neck portion.
- Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the protection cap according to the invention.
- FIGs. 2 and 3 illustrate the use of the protection cap
- Figs. 4-6 are plane views - partly in section - showing a preferred embodiment of the protection cap according to the invention.
- the protection cap 2 shown in Fig. 1 is made of a suitable unbreakably artificial material such as poly ⁇ carbonate, and the cap 2 is at its lower open end pro- vided with four tongue portions 4 projecting downwardly, from the cylindrical main portion of the. cap 2.
- the inner sides of the tongue portions 4 are provided with screw threadings 6.
- These screw threadings 6 are utual- ly adapted in such a manner as if the internal screw threading was unbroken, i.e. in such a manner that the screw threading of each of the tongue portions 4 fits onto a screw threaded neck portion 8 of a valve and portion 10 of a LPG gas bottle 12 (Figs. 2 and 3) .
- the protection cap 2 is made of arti ⁇ ficial resin, i.e. the tongue portions 4 are able to yield resiliently outwardly and still engage the screw threading 8 of the cylinder neck portion or valve end portion 10 with some radial spring force - even if the diameter of the screw threading 8 differs somehow.
- Fig. 2 illustrates how the cap 2 can be mounted on the cylinder neck portion 0 of the gas bottle 12 by a simple axial displacement, since the cap 2 can easily be pressed or be stroken onto the neck portion 10 by a palm of the hand.
- the protection cap 2 can also be screwed onto the screw neck portion 8 of the gas bottle 12.
- the protection cap 2 can as indicated in Fig. 3 be unscrewed from the neck portion 8 as usually.
- the tongue portions 6 are formed between broad and high slots 14 which not only serve to enable the tongue por ⁇ tions 8 to be bent outwardly as required for the adap ⁇ tion to a relatively broad cylinder neck portion 10, but also ensure a free ventilation of the space inside the cap 2 such that residue gas cannot be collected in this space (Fig. 3 ⁇ .
- the protection cap 2 is provided with exterior ribs 16, which are easily gripped by suitable means for rotating the cap out of engagement with the cylinder neck por ⁇ tion 8 or 10, e.g. in gas filling plants.
