Description
UNITE-D STATES' PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL G, SCHULZ, (ili HlLLlNtiS, MISSOUFRL ATTACH lVl ENT FO R STRAW- STACKERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Ressued Letters Patent No. 1 1,281, dated November 1, 1892.
Original No. 461,899, dated October 27, 1891. Application for reissue tiled May 17, 1892. Serial No. 433.394-
.citizen ol` the lfnited States, and a residentof Billings, county of Christian, State of Missouri, have invented a new and Iuseful Iniprovemcnt in h'traw-Stankers, of.which the following is a l'ull, clear, and exact description, reference beine,I had to the accompanying,r drawings, making part of this specilication.
My invention relates to an improvement in stra\\'staeke1s; and it consists in providing means by which the operator while standing on the 'freund may raise the outer end ofthe rear section to a vertical position and to fold it over and down upon the front section for convenience in transportation, and the saine means to be employed to unfold and place the stacker in operative position.
\Vith these ends in View my invention con-` sists of certain features of construction and combination of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
Figure l of the accompanying drawings is aview in perspective of a straw-stacker, illustrating myl invention; Figpl, a front elevar' tion showing/the mechanism for winding up stacker 1s fouled and unfolded. p l, Similar letters of reference indicate corro- I. l. spend-ing pailts in all of/the figures ofthe orawings. y
Referring toFig. l., A-represents the front Section of. the carrier, and l5 the rear'section,
-which parts or sections are-hinged together by n hingefnthe pintle portion of which projects above the edges of the sides'ot the stackers to allow the abutting endsof one section of the staeker'to free the abutting ends of the other section when power is exerted to swing it upward. The front end portion of section A is supportedwon or by the vertical supports C, en which are scoured brackets provided with jtmrnal-boxesc, that support the shaft orwindlass l),cn which is adjustably secured sleeves (l, having,r outwardly-projecting lugs or hooks e,and on the end of said shatter windlass is provided a crank f, by which the windlass is rotated. At or near ,the hinged end of the rear section l are providedl upwardlyprojected arms E, secured to the side board' or i'rameg. At the upper end otl the arms usual way.
are provided apen-tures, as shown, andk braces, as h, may be provided, that serve to support the arms it.
At the side of section A of the stacker is provided an eye, through which the vrope Gr is passed [or the purpose of raisngand folding the stacker. 'lhis eye may be in the forni of a dead-eye or eyebolt, as shown; or, if preferred, may be formed by placing on journalpins two small sheave-pulleys on the side ot' the stacker in vertical order and passing the rope through the eye formed by and between the pulleys. 'lhe object of the eye is to hold ,the rope (l from veri ical movement at the side the stacker-frame, near the front end of seetion A, is provided a grooved guide-roller lf., over which the rope Gis placed.
The front end of the stacker-section A is pivotally secured to the top portion of the supports (l, about which the section may. be'
rotated, and to raise and secure it in desired adjustment legs or stakes, as Vl l, are provided, the upper ends of which are pivotallyseeured to the frame ot' the stacker, the lowerlend to rest onthe carriage.
At the front end of the stacker is provided a cross-shaft J, onwhich is mounted pulleys vn and a driviiig-'pulleyIn.- Over the latteris placed the driving-inuit! liz, by which means the straw-carrying bolt L is' revolved in the lrel'erahly l. use a continuous rope, as ti, extending from the upper end of one arm E, through the eye F, over the roller is., and down and about the lgseon the sleeves (l, and up and over the roller 7.1 on the opposite side of the stacker, through the eye F,-
on a line at about right angles to a. line drawn longitudinally through the sides, in order that IOO zoA
when the arms have been drawnor folded to a position parallel with the sidesiof theiifront section A and pointing-to the eyes F the outer end of section B will have passed a, line drawn vertically through the hinges a, placing it in position to be loweredy and folded down upon the front section A,the arms E passing down. To fold the stacker, the windlassD is turned bythe' operator to wind in the'rope and to draw the arms E over and down to a. point slightly in rear of the eyes F. The rope through .he eye will prevent a. further moYem-ent of the arms and section B oftlie stacker until the windlass is turned to unwind the ropeV to lower section B down upon section A. To unfold and place the stacker in operative position, the turning of the windlass is simply reversed to raise or turn the free oronter end of section B of the stacker until it has passed the center and to lower it into position shown in Fig. l.
Having thus fully described the nature and object of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In a stacker, the combination, with twoV sections hinged together, of a windlass, a rope front section, through which said rope passes, said rope then secured to the rear section of the stacker, and means secured to said rear section for supporti-ng the rope at a point above its attachment with said rear section,
whereby said rear section may he folded up, forward, and down upon the front section, substantially as set forth. 3 5
2. In a stacker, the combination of twoV hinged sections, the rear section of which is adapted to fold upwardly and down upon the frontsoction, arms secured to the folding section and projecting upwardly therefrom at 4o approximatelyright angles, guide eyes se y cured to the front section near its rear end, guide-rollers secured near its forward end, a'j windlass, and a rope leadingfi'rom saidgigdf lass over -said rollersthrou'gh saii"gnide,'eyes` `45 and the arms and secured to said rear sectionsubstantially as set forth.
v3. A stacker comprisng the sectionsAand B,the hinge a, arms E, eyes ,F, rope G, and
y windlass D, arranged and operatedv :Bhutn-'Q59 tially as setvforth.
4. A stacker comprising the sectionsA and B,.a. hinge by which said sections are in hinged relation, armsE,secured to the rear section, eyes F, guide-rollers k, rope G, snp- 55 ports C, and windlasstD, having lng' or e` projecting therefrom, substantially as def scribed, and for the purpose setfortmr securedto seid windlass, eyes secured to the l In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 19th dayof February.
