Abstract
A new and distinct cultivar of multiflora shrub Rosa plant named ‘RUIRI0091A’ is disclosed, characterized by large salmon/orange flowers. Foliage is dark green and very glossy. The new variety is a multiflora landscape type garden rose.
Description
Latin name of the genus and species: Rosa hybrida.
Variety denomination: ‘RUIRI0091A’.
The new Rosa cultivar is a product of a planned breeding program conducted by the inventor. The cross resulting in this new variety was made during Spring of 2010 at a research nursery in Amstelveen, The Netherlands.
The seed parent is the unpatented variety Rosa ‘r-02-0159-001’. The pollen parent is the unpatented variety Rosa ‘NOA75800’. The new variety was selected in 2012 by the inventor in a group of seedlings resulting from the 2010 crossing, in a nursery in Amstelveen, the Netherlands.
Asexual reproduction of the new cultivar was performed by vegetative cuttings at a nursery in Amstelveen, The Netherlands in May 2013, and has shown that the unique features of this cultivar are stable and reproduced true to type in successive generations.
The cultivar ‘RUIRI0091A’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary somewhat with variations in environment such as temperature, day length, and light intensity, without, however, any variance in genotype.
The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the unique characteristics of ‘RUIRI0091A’ These characteristics in combination distinguish ‘RUIRI0091A’ as a new and distinct Rosa cultivar:
-
- 1. Orange/salmon colored flowers.
- 2. Glossy leaves.
- 3. Dark green leaf color.
- 4. Extremely floriferous plants.
Plants of the new cultivar ‘RUIRI0091A’ are similar to plants of the seed parent, in most horticultural characteristics, however, plants of the new cultivar ‘RUIRI0091A’ differ in the following:
-
- 1. The new variety has orange/light salmon flowers, while the seed parent has orange/pink flowers.
- 2. The new variety has glossier leaves than the seed parent.
- 3. The new variety has dark green leaves, while the seed parent has light green leaves.
Plants of the new cultivar ‘RUIRI0091A’ are similar to plants of the pollen parent in most horticultural characteristics, however, plants of the new cultivar ‘RUIRI0091A’ differs in the following;
-
- 1. The new variety has orange/light salmon flowers, while the pollen parent has orange flowers.
- 2. The new variety has glossier leaves than the pollen parent.
- 3. The new variety has dark green leaves, while the pollen parent has medium green leaves.
Plants of the new cultivar ‘RUIRI0091A’ can be compared to the commercial variety Rosa, ‘Harwelcome’, U.S. Plant Pat. No. 9,161. These varieties are similar in most horticultural characteristics, however ‘RUIRI0091A’ differs in the following:
-
- 1. The new variety has a lighter petal color.
- 2. The new variety has less petals than this comparator.
- 3. The new variety is more compact than this comparator.
- 4. Foliage of the new variety is glossier than this comparator.
Plants of the new cultivar ‘RUIRI0091A’ can be compared to the commercial variety Rosa, ‘Aprikola’, unpatented. These varieties are similar in most horticultural characteristics, however ‘RUIRI0091A’ differs in the following:
-
- 1. The new variety has larger flowers than this comparator.
- 2. The new variety stronger flower stems than this comparator.
The accompanying photograph in FIG. 1 illustrates in full color a close-up view of an individual flower.
The photographs were taken using conventional techniques and although colors may appear different from actual colors due to light reflectance it is as accurate as possible by conventional photographic techniques
In the following description, color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart 2007 except where general terms of ordinary dictionary significance are used. The following observations and measurements describe ‘RUIRI0091A’ plants grown outdoors, in De Kwakel, The Netherlands. The growing temperature ranged from approximately 20° C. to 26° C. during the day and from approximately 16° C. to 18° C. during the night. Measurements were taken in September. General light conditions were very bright, normal sunlight. Measurements and numerical values represent averages of typical plant types.
