Abstract
A new Chrysanthemum plant named ‘CIDZ0062’ particularly distinguished by medium sized purple-red, daisy-type inflorescences, with creamy white tips, medium sized plant habit, dark green glossy foliage, and a flowering response of 8 weeks.
Description
Latin name of the genus and species of the plant claimed: Chrysanthemum×morifolium.
Varietal denomination: ‘CIDZ0062’.
The present invention comprises a new Chrysanthemum, botanically known as Chrysanthemum×morifolium, and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘CIDZ0062’.
‘CIDZ0062’ is a product of a planned breeding program. The new cultivar has medium sized purple-red, daisy-type inflorescences, with creamy white tips, medium sized plant habit, dark green glossy foliage, and a flowering response of 8 weeks.
‘CIDZ0062’ originated from a hybridization made in January 2008 in a greenhouse in Bogota, Colombia. The female parent was the unpatented, proprietary plant designated ‘B1447’, with purple and white daisy-type inflorescences and with larger inflorescence and larger leaves than ‘CIDZ0062’.
The male parent of ‘CIDZ0062’ was the unpatented, proprietary plant designated as ‘B2038’, with bronze and yellow colored, daisy-type inflorescences, and a later flowering response when compared with ‘CIDZ0062’.
The seed obtained was sown in October 2009 and the resulting plants were grown in pots in a shade structure in Fort Myers, Fla. ‘CIDZ0062’ was selected as a single flowering plant within the progeny of the stated cross in March 2010 in Fort Myers, Fla.
The first act of asexual reproduction of ‘CIDZ0062’ was accomplished when vegetative cuttings were propagated from the initial selection in June 2010 in a greenhouse in Fort Myers, Fla.
Horticultural examination of plants grown from cuttings of the plant initiated in November 2010, and continuing thereafter, has demonstrated that the combination of characteristics as herein disclosed for ‘CIDZ0062’ are firmly fixed and are retained through successive generations of asexual reproduction.
‘CIDZ0062’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary significantly with variations in environment such as temperature, light intensity, and day length.
The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be basic characteristics of the new variety. The combination of these characteristics distinguishes this Chrysanthemum as a new and distinct variety.
The accompanying photographic drawings show typical inflorescence and foliage characteristics of ‘CIDZ0062’ with colors being as true as possible with an illustration of this type.
The photographic drawings show in FIG. 1 a close-up of an inflorescence of the new plant, and in FIG. 2 a flowering plant.
The plant descriptions and measurements were taken indoors in Nipomo, Calif. on Aug. 14, 2014 on about 11 week old plants. Unrooted cuttings had been planted, 4 plants per pot, in 6 inch pots on May 24, 2014. The plants were pinched and moved to short days on Jun. 16, 2014 to induce flowering.
The aforementioned photographs: FIGS. 1 and 2 were taken in Nipomo, Calif. in May 2013, and showing a plant from a trial, in which flowering had been induced by applying black cloth. These plants were about 10.5 weeks of age. Unrooted cuttings had been planted in a 6 inch pot in February, 2013.
