Abstract
A new and distinct cultivar of Bidens plant named ‘Fisbimex’, characterized by its semi-upright, outwardly spreading to somewhat trailing plant habit; moderately vigorous to vigorous growth habit; early and freely flowering habit; large inflorescences with typically about eight dark yellow-colored ray florets; and moderately strong peduncles that hold the inflorescences above and beyond the foliar plane.
Description
Botanical designation: Bidens ferulifolia.
Cultivar denomination: ‘Fisbimex’.
The present invention relates to a new and distinct cultivar of Bidens plant, botanically known as Bidens ferulifolia, and hereinafter referred to by the name ‘Fisbimex’.
The new Bidens originated from a cross-pollination made by the Inventor in Hillscheid, Germany during the summer of 2003, of the Bidens ferulifolia cultivar Marietta Gold, not patented, as the female, or seed, parent with the Bidens ferulifolia cultivar Golden Star, disclosed in U.S. Plant Pat. No. 12,589, as the male, or pollen, parent. The new Bidens was discovered and selected by the Inventor as a single flowering plant from within the progeny of the stated cross-pollination grown in a controlled environment in Hillscheid, Germany during the spring of 2004.
Asexual reproduction of the new Bidens by vegetative cuttings in a controlled environment in Hillscheid, Germany since the summer of 2004, has shown that the unique features of this new Bidens are stable and reproduced true to type in successive generations.
The cultivar Fisbimex has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary somewhat with variations in environment such as temperature and light intensity, without, however, any variance in genotype.
The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the unique characteristics of ‘Fisbimex’. These characteristics in combination distinguish ‘Fisbimex’ as a new and distinct cultivar of Bidens:

- 1. Semi-upright, outwardly spreading to somewhat trailing plant habit.
- 2. Moderately vigorous to vigorous growth habit.
- 3. Early and freely flowering habit.
- 4. Large inflorescences with typically about eight dark yellow-colored ray florets.
- 5. Moderately strong peduncles that hold the inflorescences above and beyond the foliar plane.
Plants of the new Bidens differ from plants of the female parent, the cultivar Marietta Gold, in the following characteristics:

- 1. Plants of the new Bidens and the cultivar Marietta Gold differ in stem color.
- 2. Plants of the new Bidens have lighter green-colored leaves than plants of the cultivar Marietta Gold.
- 3. Plants of the new Bidens have larger inflorescences than plants of the cultivar Marietta Gold.
- 4. Plants of the new Bidens and the cultivar Marietta Gold differ in ray floret color.
- 5. Plants of the new Bidens have shorter peduncles than plants of the cultivar Marietta Gold.

Plants of the new Bidens can be compared to plants of the Bidens cultivar Peters Goldteppich, disclosed in U.S. Plant Pat. No. 12,880. In side-by-side comparisons conducted in Hillscheid, Germany, plants of the new Bidens differed from plants of the cultivar Peters Goldteppich in the following characteristics:

- 1. Inflorescences of plants of the new Bidens had more ray florets than inflorescences of plants of the cultivar Peters Goldteppich.
- 2. Ray florets of plants of the new Bidens were darker yellow in color than ray florets of plants of the cultivar Peters Goldteppich.
- 3. Plants of the new Bidens had shorter peduncles than plants of the cultivar Peters Goldteppich.
The accompanying photographs illustrate the overall appearance of the new Bidens. The photographs show the colors as true as it is reasonably possible to obtain in colored reproductions of this type. Colors in the photographs may differ slightly from the color values cited in the detailed botanical description which accurately describe the colors of the new Bidens.

The photograph at the bottom of the sheet is a close-up view of a typical inflorescence of ‘Fisbimex’.
In the following description, color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart, 2001 Edition, except where general terms of ordinary dictionary significance are used. The aforementioned photographs and following observations and measurements describe plants grown in Hillscheid, Germany during the winter in a glass-covered greenhouse and under conditions and practices which approximate those generally used in commercial Bidens production. During the production of the plants, day temperatures ranged from about 16° C. to 18° C. and night temperatures averaged 16° C. Plants were pinched one time when they were planted. Measurements and numerical values represent averages for typical flowering plants. Plants were about five months old when the photographs and description were taken.
