HARRY P. FEARS, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO BAKE- WELL, PEARS & OO., OE SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FoR GLAsswARE.
Specification forming part of Design N o. 9,744, dated February 13, 1877 application led February 5, 1877.
` [Term of Patent LH yeara] To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HARRY P. FEARS, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Design for Glass- Ware; and I do hereby declarethe following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in Which- Figure l is a side view, and Fig. 2 is a vertical section, of my design.
Like letters refer to like parts Wherever they occur.
My design is intended for the ornamentation of salt-cellars and like articles; and consists in giving to the article the shape or form of an owl, or similar bird, in an upright position, as shown in the drawing.
A indicates the top or cover, which is made to represent the head of an owl. This cover is preferably made of metal, such as tin, silver, &e., and is provided with holes a, situated in the back part of the head, through which the salt or like article may be shaken from the box. The eyes of the owl are represented by holes a', which also allow of the escape of the salt. The bowl is constituted by the hollow body of the bird, the head or top A and the body B being united by a screw-thread, or in oth er suitable manner, which preserve the relative position of the parts. The whole rest upon a suitable base or foot, G. The bowl or body B referred to is made of glass, and the head or cap may be of like material, if desired.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a design for the ornamentation of hollow glassware, the form or congnration of an'owl or like bird, in an upright position, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof, I, the said HARRY P. PEABS, have hereunto set my hand.
