Design No. 5,031, dated June 20, 1871.
DESIGN FOR A WATER-COOLER AND REFRIGERATOR.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN LIMING, of the city of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new, useful, and original Design fora Combined Portable \Vatcr-Gooler and Refrigerativc Vessel, of which the following is a specification.
lhe nature of my design consists in the arrangement of a. water-cooler within a. circular wooden vessel lined inside with sheet metal, and provided with a removable cover in such manner and form that, while the iuclosed cooler will serve, in hot weather, as a reservoir for iced water which may be drawn therefrom, at pleasure, by a. stop-cock projecting through the inclosing vessel, the latter will serve as a refrigerative-vessel for preserving butter, milk, and other articles of food, and the two parts together form a portable vessel which will occupy but a compar'ati rel y small space and can be readily moved or carried from place to place by one person, the object of my inven tion being to afford acheap and reliable combined water-cooler and refrigemtive-vessel for those whose dwellings and circumstances will not permit the use of the larger and more costly coolers and refrigerators in common use; and my said design is fully representcd in and by the accompanying drawing, to which reference is made- Figure 1 being a. central vertical section on the dotted line 1: w of Fig. 2, and
Figure 2 a plan view of the vessel without the cover.
A B is a. coopered wooden circular vessel, having an inside lining, a, of sheet metal, and a removable cover, 1:.
O I) is an ice and water-receiving vessel of sheet metal or porcelain-lined cast-iron, of a segmental form in its horizontal section, fitted and secured to a portion of the curved inner side of the lining of the vessel A B, and thus leaving the larger portion 1)" 0f the vessel A B fora provision-chamber, and to be kept cool or refrigerative by contactwith the broad side of the water-cooler O D.
The top of the cooler C D is fitted with a cap, 0', which slips tightly over a fianch around its mouth, and closely down upon a vulcanized-gum or rubber packing-ring, d, so as to make an air-tight joint, and thus prevent the water in the cooler O D from being contaminated by any contact with the air of the provision-chamber b".
By means of the stop-cock 0" water can at any time be drawn from the containing-cooler O D, a small hole, 3, admitting air for the purpose of allowing the water to flow.
Claim.
I claim as my invention- The design for a portable water-cooler and refrigerativc-vessel combined, substantially as shown and described.
JOl-IN LIMING.
