To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HERMAN II-ILENBURG, a citizen of the United States, residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented a certain Design for Type, of which the following is a specification.
My design for a font of ornamental printing type is clearly illustrated in the accompanying typographical impression, which illustrates the upper case letters, the lower case letters and the numerals.
The main feature of the design is the ornamental light scroll found in each of the upper case letters as well as in a few of the lower case letters and numerals. The main body of each letter is heavy and the lines in a number of the letters taper from a heavy section to a light section and the upper bars of the letters A, O, E, F, R, S and T are curved as Well as tapered and the lower bars of the letters E, L and Z are also tapered and curved. The cross bar of the letter A terminates in a light scroll and the upper bars of the letters 0, E, F, G and Y also terminate in light scrolls and light scrolls form the termination of the lower bars of the letters J and L and light scrolls are found in the letters I, K and Y which are independent of the main body of the letter; the letters P and T have scrolls which extend on each side of the upright lines of the letter and scrolls are found more or less permanent in each of the other letters. The center bars of the letters E, F and H are double as shown. The lower case letters and numerals are in keeping with the upper case letters.
I claim- A design for a font of printing type as herein described and shown in the accompanying typographical impression.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HERMAN IHLENBURG.
