No. 22,408. Patented May 9, 1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM S. OBRIEN, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
DESIGN FOR A SPOON, 86G.
.To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. OBRIEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented a certain new and original Design for the Handles of Spoons and Forks, of which the following is a specification.
The leading or characteristic features of my design consist in the original shape or configuration of the handle of the spoon or fork, and in the original ornamentations for the obverse and reverse faces of the handle.
Figure 1 is a. plan view of the obverse of a spoon, the handle of which is provided with my design. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the reverse of the spoon.
The handle Ais shaped to represent a military mast of a modern war-ship, there being between its ends an enlarged or broadened portion 2, which represents a military top carried by the mast. Along either side of the handle there is a rope border. At the end of the handle there is represented an eagle clutching the American flag, also cannon, balls, and part of an anchor. On the reverse of this part of the design there is represented a small boat and crew. On the obverse of the handle there appear representations of three modern war vessels, one being upon the widened part 2 of the handle. On the reverse of the handle there are represented vessels of modern design.
What I claim is 1. In a design for the handles of spoons and forks, the obverse of the handle substantially as shown and described.
2. In a design for the handles of spoons and forks, the reverse of the handle substantially as shown and described.
3. The design for the handle of a spoon or fork substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I atfix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
\VILLIAM S. OBRIEN.
