Description

DESIGN.
D. BEST. ENGINE FRAME.
No. 21,887. Patented Oct. 11, 1892.
UNITED STATES DANIEL BEST, OF SAN LEANDRO, CALIFORNIA.
DESiGN FOR AN ENGINE-FRAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 21 ,88'7, dated October 11, 1892.
Application filed August 29, 1892.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DANIEL BEST, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Leandro, Alameda county, State of California, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Engine-Frames, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, showing a part thereof.
Fign re 1 is a side elevation. View of my engine-frame.
The leading feature of my design is the peculiar outline of the framein which the two opposing cylinders are fixed, the frame having a peculiar irregular trough shape from the ends to the center and having the two ends out of line with each other in a vertical plane.
A A represent those portions of the frame to which the cylinders of the engine are attached at opposite ends. From these endsA sides B, as shown in plan, extend from one end to the other in an irregnlareurve, the outlines being but little curved upon the diagonally-opposite sides from the ends to the points Fig. 2 is a plan Serial No. 444,457. Term of patent 14 years.
where the boxes 0 of the crank-shaft are secured. From this point each of the sides forms a reverse curve, as shown at B, extending from this curve to the opposite cylindersnpport A, this arrangement with these curves being such that the cylinder-supports are out of line with each other in a vertical plane, but lie in the same horizontal plane.
Between these sides is a trongh-shaped bottom 0', which deepens from the ends to the center, where it reaches itsdeepestpoint. From each end reversely-curved ribs D extend downwardly and have feet adapted to rest upon the floor. Between these ribs is a connecting-rib, the ends of which form upwardlycurving arches E, which merge into a downwardly-cnrving portion F at the center.
What I claim is The design for an engine-frame, substantially as shown and described.
