EDlVARD GERlll/XIN, OF SAGINAVV, MICHIGAN.
DESIGN FOR A MANTEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 21,158, dated November 10, 1891.
Application filed October 14, 1891. Serial No. 403,726. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whont it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD GERMAIN, of Saginaw, in the State of lllichigen, have invented and produced a new and origin-(ii Design for Mantels, of which the foliowing is n specification.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents the mantel in front elevation. Fig. 2 is a, transverse vertical sectional elevation of the szune. Fig. 3 is a cross-section of one of the pilnsters.
The sectional views are intended not to exhibit the mechanical construction of the mantel, but to better illustrate the outline and configuration of the several parts of the mantel.

Upon these raised vertical hacking strips or panels are the pilesters, plinths, and brackets or dentels. Each pilnster has its outer face molded, as shown in Fig. 1, and in cross-section, Fig. 2, where the outline of the molding is plainly exhibited. The plinths are thicker and wider than their pilasters, thus projecting beyond the latter in front and at the sides. The upper portion of each plinth is molded, the molding consisting of an upper bevel b, a lower bevel b and an intermediate ogeeshnped surface The configuration of the brackets c in side elevation is shown in Fig. 2. Each bracket has on its face two cross V-grooves c and longitudinal grooves or dents 0 extending between these cross-grooves.
