DESIGN FOR A SPOON.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Design NO. 29,866, dated December 27, 1898. pp at filed January 30' 1897. Serial No. 621,366. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISABELLA BEECHER HOOKER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Spoons and the Like, of which the following is aspecification,refercnce being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof.
The figure is a plan view of aspoon, showing my design.
In the accompanying facsimile drawing the letter adenotes the handle of the spoon, b the shank, and c the bowl.
The spoon bears pictorial representations illustrating characters and scenes described in the well-known work of Harriet Beecher Stowe, entitled Uncle Torns Cabin.
0n the bowl 0 of the spoon is the representation of a log cabin, with the figure of a negro seated on a bench in front of the cabin.
On the shank of the spoon is depicted the head of a negro child with hair in tufts.
On the handle of the spoon is a representation of the head and upper portion of the body of a child.
The handle of the spoon underneath the head is embellished with ornamental scrollwork, as are also the edges at the upper end of the handle. Above the head of the child are represented blossoms, and above these is a picture of the head and bust of the author of the work in which the characters intended to be represented are described.
The characteristic feature of the design consists in the pictorial representation of a log cabin with a negro seated thereby and the representations of noted characters and 0f the author of the Work entitled Uncle Toms Cabin.
