JAMES B. BEATTY, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
DESIGN FOR A FAN OR SIMILAR ARTICLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No.,18,499, dated August'l, 1888.
Application filed June 28, 1888. Serial No. 218.460, Term of paient at years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES B. BEATTY, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for a Fanor Similar Article, ofwhich the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying illustration, forming part hereof.
The leading feature of my invention consists in a surface ornamentation, being the representation of a handkerchief of what is known as the bandaua pattern, loosely thrown together, as shown, and having a plain field in the center of the picture, on which are two faces or portraits.
A represents the handkerchief, having the various bandana figures B B upon it. v
C is the plain space in the center, and D E are the portraits or faces thereon and surrounded by overlapping circular portraitspaces.
The effect produced is that of a baudana handkerchief loosely thrown together and having the two portraits in overlapping circular portrait-spaces upon a plain card orgrouud lying upon it.
This design is particularly adapted by its .eharacter and configuration to he placed in the crown of a silk hat or upon a fan or similar article, and produces a very pleasing and attractive appearance.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
The design for a fan or similar article having a surfaceornamentation consisting of the representation of a bandana handkerchief, A, loosely thrown together, and having a plain space, 0, in the center thereof, with the overlapping circular portrait-spaces thereupon, containing the portraits D E, substantially as shown.
