CARPET.
. Patented Sept. 20, 1887.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NORIO KOMORI, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO THE BIGELOW CARPET COMPANY, OF CLINTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 17,732, dated September 20, 1887.
Application filed August 16, 1887. Serial No. 247,121. Term of patent 33 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Home KoMoRI, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design forCarpets, ofwhich thefollowingisaspjcifica lion, reference being had to the accompanying photograph, which forms a part of the same.
The invention relates to a design to. be worked into or upon surfaces, such as carpets or similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel configuration and grouping of figures herein specifically shown and claimed.
The accompanying photograph is a face view of a carpet showing my new design.
My design is composed of abody part, A,aud a border, B.
The characteristic feature of the body A lies in the broad expanded palln-like leaves, that are gathered into groups, irregularly disposed over the face of the carpet. These leaves are ofa rich tropical form, and they spread out from the center of each group, so as to form a loose irregular cluster. Portions of stem-work appear in the intervals between these groups, bearing other smaller leaves and here and there a large and prominent circular flower. Depending from other parts of the stern are smaller bell-shaped flower forms. Running over the face of each of the groups of large leaves is a slender stem-work hearing small 0 inconspicuous flower forms. Some star-shaped flowers appear in the spaces bctwccn thelarge groups.
My border B has an inner ornamented margin. The middle portion shows siinilarlarge 5 palm-likeleaves grouped together. Between the groups is a stem-work hearing large circular flowers and smaller leaves. A slender stem-work extends over the face of the larger leaves bearing similar inconspicuous flower 0 forms. Here and there are a few star-shaped flowers. My border has an outer margin or band ornamented with conventional leaf groups or forms.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. In a design for carpets, the body A, stantially as shown.
2. In adesign for carpets, the border B, substantially as shown.
3. The design for carpet-s, consisting of the body A and border 13, substantiallyas shown.
