DESIGN FOR A DISH.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that l, TI-IoMAs C. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Green Point, in the city of Brooklyn, Kings county, New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Butter and other Dishes, of which the following speeitication is a i'ull, clear, and exact description.

The new design is intended for what are known as individual butter-dishes,77 those embodying the said design being most appropriatel y described as combined butter and salt or condiment dishes for individual use. The design may, however, be otherwise applied. Itis distinguished from previous designs by the presence, first, of a larger and a smaller receptacle, forming together an elongated dish broader at one end than at the other, with the smaller receptacle at the narrow end thereof 5 secondly, of two shallow rimless receptacles of unequal size side by side at the same level, with an intervening partition curved toward the center of the larger receptacle; thirdly, of a shelllike form divided into two receptacles of unequal size side by side at the same level by a partition curved toward the center of the larger receptacle and shaped like the Afront of a shell.

In the accompanying drawings, which form art of this specification, a dish embodying the design and containing all the features above mentioned is represented, Figure I being a plan, and Fig. II aeentrallongtudinal section, of the same.

In both views, A is the larger and B the smaller receptacle. The dish is elongated and broader at one end than at the other, and has the smaller receptacle at the narrow end. The two receptacles are shallow and rimless, and are placed side by side at the same level. The

intervening partition is curved toward the center of the larger receptacle, thus making the smaller receptacle project into the larger one. Each receptacle occupies practically the whole space between the partition and the edge of the dish on its side of the said partition. The dish has a shell-like form, and the partition is shaped like the front of a shell, giving a shell-like form to the smaller reeeptacle, and to the dish more or less the appearance and effect of a shell set within a larger shell at the edge thereof. The edges of the receptacle are shown as scalloped; but this is not material.

Any desired ornamentation may be used without changing the nature ot' the design, which consists in the special coniigi'lration shown and described.

Certain features of the design may, itis evident, be used without the others.

I claim- 1. The design for a dish herein shown and described, consisting ol' a larger and a smaller receptacle, the dish being elongated and broader at one end, and the smaller receptacle being at the narrow end.

2. lThe design for a dish herein shown and described, consisting of two shallow rimless receptacles of unequal size side by side at the same level, with an intervening partition curved toward the center of the larger receptaele.

3. The design for a dish kherein shown and described, consisting of a shell-like form divided into two receptacles of unequal size side by side at the same level by a partition curved toward the larger receptacle and shaped like the front of a shell.
