UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS J. FLAGG, OF NEW YORK, Ni Y., ASSIGNORTO; FISK, CLARK 8t FLAGG, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A SCARF.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 15.29 5,dated August 19, 1884.
Application flledMnyZl iEM. Tex-moi patent 73mins To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatlI, THOMAS J. FLAGG, of the city, county, and State of-New York, have inventeda new and original Design fora Scarf for Mens Wear; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereoi, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the lettersot rei'erence marked thereon, making a parrot this specification.
My design involves the configuration ot' the outer apron, S, of the scarf as its prominent feature; and it consists, as represented in the drawing, of an ogee curve, A B, merged at its upper end in an inwardly-inclined line, A C, forming one edge of said apron, and of an inn 'ardlzy cnrved line, D E, joined to an inwardly-inclined upper line, ECl forming the opposite edge, the line E 0 being made to intersect the line A C at G uponone side of an imaginary straight line (see dotted lineirzc in the drawing) extending longitudinally through the center of thescarf, midway between the lines B A and D E. The form of the lower end of thescari, between the points D and B,
is not an essential feature of the design, and .i
may therefore be varied to present either a straight, a curved, or a broken or angular line, as D K B. The inwardly-curved lateral line D Ecorresponds in its curvature with the lower re-entrant curve of theogee A B. Ibis prolonged upwardly with an outward curve, EF, to form an ogee corresponding in length and form to the curve A B, and is merged. at its upper end in an inwardly-inclined line, F G, corresponding in its length and inclination to the line A C, the extreme upper end of these lines F G and A 0 being connected by a transverseline G C, which, togetherwith an inner line, G H, extending from the angle G to iutersectlthe line E Catlthe point H,where it is crossed by the inraginarycentral line, a: w, servesto define the: edgesor outline of the inner apron, T, and center piece, U, and to complete the outline of the entire scarf The design maybe ornamented and relieved of stifinessand'flatness in appearance by means of folds, plaits, or puiils K K, extending inward from the upper side lines, 0 A and F G, substantially as illustrated in the: drawin I claim- 1.. The design for a made-up scarf, herein shown and described, the same consisting of the outwardly-inclined line C A and ogee curve A B on one side, and the opposite lateral re-entrant curve D E and inwardly-in clined line E O, which, intersecting the first line at C, on the other side, completesthe configuration of the outer apron of the scarf, in combination with the outline E F G H E, which, coinciding at H E with a portion, OE, of theoutline of the outer apron, defines the inner apron, and with the line G G, which, uniting the upper angles of the two aprons, defines the neck-line, and completes the configuration of the entire scarf.
2. The design for a made-up scarf, herein shown and described, the sanre consisting of the outwardlyinclined line C A and ogee curve A B, on one side, and the opposite lateral re-entrant curve D E, and inwardly-inlclined line E G, which, intersecting the first line atlO on the other side. completes the configuration of the outer apron of the scarf, the outline E F G H E, which, coinciding atH E with a portion, 0 E, of the out-lineot" the outer apron, defines the inner apron, the line G O, which, uniting the upper angles of the two aprons, defines the neck-line and completes the configuration ot the entire scarf, and the ornamentation K K.
In testimonywhereof I have signed my name to this spectficationlin the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
