OLIVER '1. MAY, OF CA NASTOTA, -NEW YORK.
Letters Patent No. 99,216, dated J actuary 25, 1870.
IMPROVED NON-CORROSIVE-METALLIC ROOFING.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and. making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, OLIVER '1. MAY, of Oanastota, in the county of Madison, and in the State of New York, have invented a new and improved Non-0orrosive Metallic Roofing; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
The nature of my invention consists in the combination of tin, copper, and lead in certain proportions, to form-a non-corrosive allcy for roofing, which will be much-cheaper and more durable than any other metallic roofing now in use.
The proportions of the ingredients are as follows, viz:
Eighty-fire (85) parts of pure lead to twelve (12) forth.
The tin is first melted, and the copper theu-gradually added thereto. When both are fused and intimately mixed, the lead is added to the mixture of copper and tin, and when melted sufficiently, the whole is to be thoroughly mixed by stirring. The melted alloy is then cast in an iron ingot-mould, of the proper form to roll into sheets of the required size and thickness.
Having thus described my invention,
\Vhat I claim as new, and'desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an article of manufacture, a non-corrosive metallic roofing, composed entirely of tin, copper, and lead, in the proportions substantially as herein set In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand, this 13th day of March, 1869.
