Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 6, 1911.
Application filed December 13, 1909. Serial No. 532,963.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODOR HEINRICH KoRNER, a subject of the King of Prussia, German Emperor, residing at Marburg, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fodder-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a fodderor forage box which is constructed so that a perfect control of the forage dealt out is possible.
The improved fodderor forage box permits to regulate the quantity of food for each animal, horse or others, so that a uniform feeding of the animals is insured.
In the accompanying drawings the improved fodderor forage box is shown by way of example.
Figure 1 represents the forage-box in a perspective view. Fig. 2 shows in a perspective view part of the box.
The improved fodderor forage-box is constructed as follows :In one of the corners of the ordinary forage-box a, the right hand side corner in the drawing, a separate compartment is arranged which is divided into three, four or more vertical compart ments Z), according to the number of horses to be fed. These vertical compartments Z) are divided by means of horizontal movable plates 0 into four horizontal compartments b b 19 (Z, the latter of which contain drawers. The horizontal plate 0 are conveniently guided and adapted to be pulled out of the box. The rear part of said plates 0 which are preferably made of sheet metal, is hingedly connected with the front part so that this front part of the plate, after it has been pulled out of the box, can be lifted to be placed against the front wall of the forage-box a where it is retained in vertical position by means of a blade spring f. A stud laterally projecting from the rear end of said horizontal plates or any other convenient device is provided to prevent the a horizontal plates from being pulled out completely. For the horizontal plates 0 of two adjacent compartments 7) a common lock 6 is provided which has two lock-bolts destined to penetrate into corresponding openings of the horizontal plates 0. The locks for the different compartments differ so that to open the same a special key is required.
The improved forage-box is used as follows :--The headman or proprietor of the stables opens the box and after having pulled out the two upper series of horizontal plates 0 fills into each vertical compartment the required quantity of forage whereupon the compartments or divisions b are closed by means of the horizontal plates 0. The compartments or divisions are filled and closed and finally the upper divisions b are filled. The box as well as all the locks e are locked and the forage box is ready. To feed the horses at the proper time the stable boy opens the lock 6 of his compartments 6, the lower one at first and pulls out the corresponding horizontal plates c, the front parts of which he lifts and fixes by means of the blade springs f. The oats or other contents of the lower divisions 6 drop into the drawers d and can be easily taken out. The stable boy proceeds at the proper time in the same manner with the other divisions, the oats or other cereals dropping each time into the drawers cl. To facilitate the dropping out of the cereals from one compartment or division into the others and the drawers (Z fillets g of triangular cross section are arranged at one or both sides of each division which serve to guide the cereals. The compartments I) could further be made separate of the forage-box a, to be placed along the walls of the stables or at any other place.
I claim An improved forage box which com prises in combination with the usual box closed by a lid, a certain number of compartments in one of the corners of the box, horizontal plates of sheet metal, preferably three which divide each compartment into four superposed divisions, the rear part of said plates hingedly connected with the front part of the same so that the front part after the plate has been pulled out can be lifted against the front wall of the box,
blade springs arranged on the front wall of described and shown and for the purpose the box for securing said horizontal plates set forth. 10 in lifted position, means for limiting the In witness whereof I have hereunto set my movement of the horizontal plates, a lock hand in the presence of two Witnesses.
for every two adjacent horizontal plates THEODOR HEINRICH KORNER drawers in the lower divisions of the ver- Witnesses:
tical compartments and guide fillets upon FRIED. TINSHOW,
the walls of every division, substantially as FERDINAND FRESENING.
