Description

niet geen ement un. BARTON, or Boon-VILLE,- INDIA-NA.
12mm Paten No. 98,335, dma Damm 2s, A'
mrnovnmnr ne commen mow msnen-Bowan.
The xefen'edto the Letters Patentlnd making parte! tiresome. 4
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, E. A. BARTON, oil-Boonville,
d in the county of Warrick, andl State of Indiana, have' To enable those skilled to :understand and make.
my improvements, I will proceed to describe the construction and operation o the saune, referring by letters, similar letters denoting like parts in the different views.
A represents two side-rails of the roller-frame secured' together by two cross-mils B B.
A bearing is provided, in the rear ends of the rails A, for the axle of the roller .0. y
'The'roller C is shorter than 4the distance between the two rails A, a distance equal to the sum of the 'thickness of the two side-rails J of the barrow-flame, and has'secured to the axle loosely, between the ends of the roller and the rails A, a journal-box.
The barrow-trame consists of two side-rails J, secured together byineans of a ciossbar, K.
The forward ends are provided with a bearingfor the axle of theA rotary barrow L', andthe rear ends are slotted out, to fit over the square .ends of the journalboxen.
The ends of the miler and harrow have turned thereon races, for the reception of bands R, which hold the frames together.'
The barrow-flame, at the rear end, hasvertical slots provided therein, to receivethe wedges M, which tighten the bands R. v
A more perfect description of these palts will be seen in my patent granted June 29, 1869, of which this is an improvement.;
The end of the roller in my present invention is provided with two band-races, insteadof one, and
y 'd within the seed-'hopper D is arranged a rotatingI tumbling-rod, E, which is mounted in bearings, vinA the ends of the hopper, protruding'at one end' a' short distance, and having secured thereto a fixed pulley, a; l
On top of the'side-iails A ismounted a standard, F, to which is securedia rotating pulley, b, inline" with the race of therolier and vthe pulley a.
A band, c, passing aronnds the-pnlleya, vis crossed and passed around the pulley b, `and from thencel to the mee-in th endof theroller' Q the'pniiey` b, mounted-upon its standard, serving to keepj-the-bands above the cross-barK cf the barrow-frame,and,mal-
ing it independent of said frame; y
It will be observed that, the machinebeing started, j the motion of the roller'is impartcd, by the bands,
R, tothe barrow, andv by theband c to the tumblingrod E, which is provided with teeth, and kee'ps. the
holes in the bottom of the hopper l free from any ob.-y structions, thus allowing the seed to pass through.
On the forward edge of the -cross-bar-K is ar-Q ranged a series of cleaning-teeth, 0,'whicli 'eectualiy prevent the teeth of the rotary .barrow becoming clogged.
The machine is provided with the proper seed-dropping device, and with mechanism for litting;the harrow-frame, a driveis seat, and screen, all of which may be seen by reference to the patent hereinbefore' alluded to, the object of my present n'ventionfbeing an improvement upon"suchmachines.
Having described, the construction and operation of' my improved machine,
What I clairer as new, and desire vtn seeureby ters Patent, is-
In combination 'with the seed-sewer, hai-row, and` roller, constructedand operating as described, the' tumbler-rod E, and cleaning-testine, as andfor the purpose setforth.- In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand, this lth-tlayof August, AJ D. 1869.
f 'E.1 A.'BARTON.
