WILLIAM F. JACOBS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
NECKTIE-RETAINER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 10, 1911.
Application filed March 2, 1910. Serial No. 546,797.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VILLIAM F. JACOBS, a citizen of the United States, residing at 817 Test Fifty-seventh street, city of New York, borough of Manhattan, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Retainers, of which the following is a clear, full, and exact description.
This invention relates to an improved necktie retainer and the objects of the same are to provide a simple, efficient and practical necktie retainer, adapted to retain neckties in position after they have once been tied, so that they will not move up on the collar.
These being among the objects of my invention, the same consists of certain features of construction to be hereinafter described and then pointed out in the claims, with reference to the accompanying drawings showing a desirable form of the invention and in which- Figure 1 is an elevation of a collar with my improved necktie retainer applied thereto. Fig. 2 is an enlarged cross-section thereof on the line 2-2, Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3 3, Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, a suitable collar button is shown comprising a base 1, a shank 2 and a head 3. Obviously this button may be of any suitable construction and form.
Directly in front of and in juxtaposition to the base 1, there is formed in the shank 2 of the button a perforation 4, preferably elongated which receives a closed loop or band 5 of suitable flexible material, in the form of a cord or ribbon as may be desired. This loop or band 5 is mounted loosely upon the button and is free to be slipped in one or the other direction through the perforation 4. Thus mounted upon the collar button, the said loop or band depends therefrom, so that the ends of the tie may be introduced through it. The ends of the guide perforation 4 for the loop or band are preferably flared or enlarged, so as to prevent abrasion or injury to the said loop or band.
In use the collar button secures the collar such as S in usual manner, and the retaining loop or band 5 will then be located inside the collar, so that it will hang down from the button. To retain a tie the ends are passed through the loop or band and the desired style of tie is then produced. The tie will then be held against rising from the position in which it is secured.
Vhat I claim is:
1. A necktie retainer, comprising an insertible and removable collar-button having a rear base, a shank and a front head which is of less diameter than said base, said shank having a transverse opening, and flexible means extending through said opening to engage a tie.
2. A necktie retainer, comprising an insertible and removable collar-button having a rear base, a shank and a front head which is of less diameter than said base, said shank having a transverse opening located close to the said base, and a closed loop extending through said opening.
Signed at New York city, N. 28th day of February, 1910.
