HARRY FRANCIS FRASER, OF MISSOULA, MONTANA.
STAMP-BOX.
T o all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY FRANCIS FRASER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Missoula, in the county of Missoula and State of Montana, have invented new and useful Improvements in.
Stamp-Boxes, of which the following is a specification. p
This invention relates to stamp boxes, and has for an object to provide a box with a plurality of compartments, one of which being designed for the reception of a quantity of stamps and the other being designed for the reception of a moistening element, the said boX being formed with a reservoir portion and provided with means for feeding the liquid from the reservoir to the moistener.
In the drawing, forming a portion of this specification and in which like numerals of reference, indicate similar parts in the several viewsz-Figure 1 is a detail perspect-ive view of my improved stamp boX showing the closure therefor in an open position. Fig. 2 is an end view thereof. Fig. 3 is a detail longitudinal section therethrough. Fig. 4 is a transverse section taken on the line 4 4 of Fig. 1.
My improved stamp boX consists of a main body member 1 which is designed to form the main portion of the boX, and as illustrated7 it is formed to provide compartments 2 and 3 the latter being designed for the reception of the stamps. rFhe compartment 2 has mounted therein a foraminous plate 4 which forms one element of my improved moistener. Immediately beneath the said plate 4 is a feed strip 5 of felt or absorbent material which extends downwardly into the reservoir 6 which is formed beneath the compartments 2 and 3. As shown, a suitable base member 7 supports the feed member and its office is to hold the member against the under surface of the plate 4 so as to insure the desired transmission of the liquid from the reservoir to the moistening surface of the plate 4. The plate 4 is provided on its upper surface with a rectangular elastic member 8. A closure 9 is hinged to one side of the boX, and as illustrated, it is provided with a rectangular member 10 of elastic material which is designed to bear against the member 8 so as Specication of Letters Patent.

to form a perfect air and water tight connection between the compartments 2 and 3 when the closure is moved into its closed posit-ion against the main body member.
At one end the main body member is formed to provide a feed opening 11 which is closed by a plug or other equivalent removable closure 12. The extension of the feed member 5 into the reservoir is such that the liquid will be collected by the said member and fed by capillary attraction to the moistening plate 4. The front wall of the main body member 1 is formed to provide a lip 13 which is designed to be engaged by the offset portion 14 at the front of the cover, the portion 14 of the said lip 13 serving as a clasp to hold the cover securely in a closed position. The device herein described and shown is such as to permit its being made of a size where it may be conveniently carried in the pocket or purse and its con* struct-ion is such that the gummed surfaces of the stamps may be conveniently moistened when it is desired to adjust them to the letters.
I claim:
As a new article of manufacture, a stamp box formed to provide a stamp compartment and formed beneath the said compartment to provide a reservoir, a plug removably mounted in one of the endvwalls of the receptacle, a perforated plate located immediately at one side of the stamp compart ment, a porous feed member having a portion disposed directly beneath the said perforated plate and having end portions extending directly into the reservoir, a member carried by the receptacle and engaging the said porous material to hold the same against the underside of the perforated plate, an elastic member of rectangular form on the upper surface of the perforated plate, and a closure for the receptacle having an elastic member engaging the first elastic member when the closure is moved HARRY FRANCIS FRASER.
