WILLIAM I. PITT, OF INDEPENDENCE, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO IRVING-PITT MANU- FACTURING COMPANY, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI, A CORPORATION Oili MISSOURI.
L0 OSE-LEAF BOOK;
Specification of I etters Pa'tent. Patented Feb. 28, 1911.
1' A iiiilieation tiled November 20, 1909. Serial No. 529,044.
Be it known that I, \VnmuM-P. PITT, a citizen of the United States, residing at- Independence, in the county of Jackson 'and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Loose-Leaf Books, of which the following is a specificalion.
My invention relates to improvements in loose leaf books.
It relates particularly to the class of loose leaf books provided with hook carrying,
The object of my invention is to provide a construction in which the several parts may be-quicklyand securely, as wellas dewhen assembled, will present a finished appearance.
The novel features of my invention are hereinafter fully described and claimed.
' Inthe accompanying drawings which illustrate the preferred formof my invention- Figure 1 is a plan view, partly broken away, the covers being shown in the open position. Fig. 2 is an end view of a porimprovement. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken on the: plane of the dotted line a in Fig. 1, the covers being shown in the closed position. Fig. 4; is a view similar to Fig. 3, taken on the plane eorres 'ionding to the dotted line cd ot';l*ig.. 1. Fig. 5 is a longitudinal sectional view on the dotted line ef of Fig. 1. Fig. (l is a longitudinal sectional view on the dotted line. g -h of Fig. 1. Fig. 7 is a bottom view of one of the end plates.
. Similar similar parts.
'1 denotes the back and 2 the. covers of the book. Secured-to the back 1 and preferably preferably provided with two eyes 4, which are adapted. to be inserted through two holes 5- respectively, provided in a concavo-convex spring member 6', provided with longitudinal flanges 7, in which are disposed the outer edges of two longitudinal parallel hook carrying members 8 provided with cooperating hooks 9 of the ring type,-
characters of rleference denote leaves, denotedby 10. retaining memberll is provided with parallel flanges 12 l tor embracingthe spring member 6Q The with notches 13 through which the hooks 9 extend. For imparting movement from one hook carrying member 8 to the opposite one, I provide one or more pins 14, which are disposed intermediate the hook carrying retaining member 11 is preferably provided I members and are provided each with two heads which are disposed at opposite. sides of the members 8. Preferably, said pins 14 comprise each acylindrical body havin an annular groove 15 in which are inserted the adjacent inneredges of the members 8. The spring member'6, preferably near its center, is provided with a hole 16 through which extends a tongue 17, which ispro-- vided onthe back-member 3. For securely fastening the retaining member-'ll-and the back member 3 to the spring member 6', I provide two end members 18, .whi chlare provided at their upper edges rpspec'ti-vely with inwardly turned flanges 19 for embracing the upper side of the member 11 and at their lower edges are provided with -inwardly extending tongues 20, adap tedito embrace. the underside of the spring memher 6. "lhe ,end members 18 are provided respectively with tongues 21 adapted to be respectively inserted through the eyes t so as to firmly secure the spring member 6 to the-base member lnthe spring member 6 adjacent its ends are provided two holes 22, adapted to respectively receive two projections 23 which extend downward respectively from the tongues 21 and prevent: the accidental detachment of the members 18. Preferably the tongues 21 are resilient so as to permit the projections 23 to'automatically enter the holes 22.
When ,the cover is constructed the backm'ember 3-is embedded therein with the eyes 4 projecting therefrom. The hook members 8, spring member (5, and retaining member 11. are then assembled, after which the spring member (3 is mounted upon the back portion 1. of the cover, with the eyes 4 and posed below the member 6 and the flanges 19 resting on the upper side of the retainmg member 11. The end members 18 111 addition to securingthe parts together serve book carrying members, .for holding the hook carrying members in ting members and the spring memb to cover the ends of the chamber formed by the retaining and spring membersti.
My invention is not limited to the par-.-
t-icula-r construction shown and described, but it may be variously modified, within the scope of the appended claims, w1thout departing from its spirit.
fl Iaving-thns described my invention, what claim and desir ent, is
