Be it known that I, WILLIAM W. HOFFn MAN, of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Eyeglass Connections; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the specification, and to the reference characters marked thereon.

The present -invention which relates to a connection between the bridge, a lens mount and a nose guard of eyeglasses has for an object to provide a construction which is inexpensive to manufacture and in which the connection may be quickly and easily effected without the liability of the parts becomin separated in use.

To these and other ends the invention consists in certain improvements and combinations of parts all as will be hereinafter more fully described, the novel features being pointed out in the claims at the end of the specification.

In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view showing one embodiment of my invention. Fig. 2 is a detached perspective view of the same embodiment; Fig. 3 is a sectional view in the plane of the lenses, and Fig. 4 is a like view of another embodiment.

The invention which is capable of being embodied in various constructions as illustrated in Figs. 1 to 3, comprises a lens mount consisting of lens attaching ears l secured to the lens Aand extending from a lens bearing member 2 from which pro-jects a post 3 having a vertical box 4 at its outer end, the outer wall of the box provided with an opening 4a. One end of the bridge 5 and the attaching end of a guard 6, are arranged within the box and are preferably per orated at 7 and 8 respectively to receive the fastener. The fastener in this form consists of a pin having its inner screw threadedV end 9 enga ing the post after passing throu h the per orations 7 and 8 and its head 10 Iying within the opening 4. A shoulder 11 is provided within the box on the fastener, transverse to the longitudinal axis of the latter 4and is preferably formed by an annular reduced portion 12 which gives the shoulder an annular formation, permits the rotation of the screw and does not require the insertion of the latter at any particular angle. To coperate with this annular shoulder 1l I provide a locking device preferably in the form of a bifurcated member or plate 13 which straddles the fastener at its reduced portion 12 in front of the shoulder 11 to prevent the axial displacement of the fastener.

Another embodiment of my invention is shown in Fig. 4 wherein the lens mount is provided with a vertical box 4b and the post 3a has its bore 3b opening to the lens bearing face of the mount. The bridge 5 and the guard 6 are arranged within the box as in the other embodiment and the fastener is in the form of a cylindrical pin fitting the bore 3b and extending through the box to engage within the perforated ends of the bridge and the nose guard. That portion of the fastener within the box is provided with a reduced portion 122a which is formed with the annular shoulder 11a in front of which the locking device 13 is arranged to prevent the axial displacement of the fas-v tener.

In both of the illustrated embodiments the bridge and the nose guard end are first having a box, and a nose guard and a.

bridge having an end fitted in the box, of a fastener holdingy the nose guard and the bridge against removal from the box, and having a shoulder transverse to its longit-udinal axis arranged within the box, and a locking device entering the box in front of the shoulder to prevent axial movement of the fastener.
