CHARLES A. SLEICHER, OF TROY, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO STANDARD COMPOUND COMPANY, OF TROY, NEW YORK, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
COMPOSITION OF MATTER FOR FOUNDRY -CORES.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES A. SLEIGHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Troy, New York, in the county of Itemselaer and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Composition of Matter for Foundry-Cores, of which the following is a specification.
I have invented a new and useful composition of matter to be used for foundry cores, of which the following isa specification:
The core commonly'used 1n foundries is made up of sand with rosin as a binder. Because of the high price of rosin the composition is expensive. The core must necessarily be of such composition that it may be submitted to high temperature or baked while in the form before it is placed in the the metal poured about it. This requires that the binder shall be of such material as to cause it to attract and hold the other parts of the composition during and after the baking effect. I have discovered that petroleum coke or petroleum asphaltum when'mixed with sand in the proper proportion makes a core capable of performing all of the re- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 25,1910.
Application filed March 10, 1910. Serial No. 548,470.
quirements of the most efiicient core and at an expense which is very much less than any with which I am familiar. The composition of the core is made up preferably of one part petroleum coke or petroleum asphaltum, either or both, solidified or in liquid form, with thirty parts of sand. I do not, however, limit myself to the proportion given, as it may vary, or to the particular technical ingredients petroleum coke or petroleum asphaltum, as similar by-products of petroleum are included in the terms which I have used.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A core comprising a petroleum byproguct, one part mixed with thirty parts of san 2. A core composition comprising petroleum coke, petroleum asphaltum and sand.
In testimony whereof I have aflixedmy signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES A. SLEICHER.
Witnesses:
