ALONZO G. BREWER, OF WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO THE WIRE GOODS COMPANY, OF WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS, A CORPORATION OF MASSACHUSETTS.
WIRE COAT AND HAT HOOK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 11, 1910.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALoNzo G. BREWER, a citizen of the United States, residing at lVorcester, in the county of Vorcester and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Vire Coat and Hat Hook, of which the following is a specification, accompanied by drawings forming a part of the same, in which Figure 1 is a side View of my improved hook. Fig. 2 is a top view, and Fig. 3 is an end view of the same.
Similar reference figures refer to similar parts in the different views.
My invention relates to coat and hat hooks formed from a single piece of wire having received a number of bends and in- I terlocking twists, and it consists in the construction and arrangement of parts as hereinafter described and pointed out in the annexed claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, 1 is the screw threaded end of a single piece of wire from which my improved hook is constructed, by which the hook is fastened in position. The portion 2 of the wire extends straight out from the screw threaded end 1 and is returned parallel with itself by the bend 3. The parallel wires 2 and 4 are given a slight upward bend 5 at the end 3 in the usual manner, shown in Fig. 1. The wires 2 and 4 are twisted together at 6, and the portion 7 of the wire 4 is preferably arranged directly beneath the portion 2 forming the upper or hat hook.
The wire 4 is bent upward at 8, approximately at right angles, and is looped over and around the wire 2 making the loop 9.
From the loop 9 the wire 4 extends downward approximately at right angles to the wire 2, and is bent forward at 10 to form the lower or coat hook. The wire 4 terminates at the end of the coat hook and is preferably finished by a knob 11.
The loop 9 of the wire 4 around the Wire 2 affords a bearing surface or washer, which .is brought into contact with the surface to which the hook is attached when the hook is screwed in, and thereby prevents rotation of the hook around the screw threaded end. The thrust of the washer against the surface to which the hook is attached is received by the twists 6, thereby relieving the bend 3 of any strain which would tend to separate the wires 2 and 4.
I claim, I
A coat and hat hook made from a single piece of wire, screw threaded at one end, doubled in the form of an elongated loop with both wires forming said loop in the same horizontal plane and twisted together near the middle of said loop to bring said wires into the same vertical plane thereby forming the upper or hat hook, the lower wire then bent upward approximately at right angles and looped around the upper wire forming approximately a complete circle embracing said upper wire, then bent downward approximately at right angles to said upper wire and bent forward to form the lower or coat hook.
