KEY FASTENBB.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. 30, 1910.

KEY-FASTENER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK S. ODENZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Impr vements in Key-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in key fasteners, and more particularly to such devices as are attached to a door in proximity to the lock thereof and are adapted to engage the key while the latter is in the lock in such a manner as to hold said key against being turned or forced out of the lock from the outside of the door, as is possible with ordinary door locks where no extraneous means are provided to prevent such removal.
The object of my invention is to provide a device as above characterized which shall be inexpensive of construction and'efticient in its operation, a further object being to so construct the device that it may be de taohed when its use is not desired.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
With these objects in view my invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
My invention will be more readilyunderstood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification. and in which,
Figure l is a front elevation of a portion of a door embodying my invention in its preferred form, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view thereof.
Referring now to the drawing, 1 designates an ordinary door and 2 a door key, the latter being in position in the key-hole 3 and in the door lock (not shown). Arranged beneath and adjacent the key-hole 3 is a sheet metal plate a which is secured to the door by means of screws 5, a threaded pin 6 being centrally arranged and integral with said plate. The pin 6 is provided with a thumb nut 7 by means of which the swing ing arm 8 is detachably pivoted to said pin. The body portion of the swinging arm 8 is inclined to the door as shown in Fig. 2 and at the upper end thereof a U-shaped loop Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 30, 1910.
Patented Dec. 20, 1910.
Serial No. 552,378.
is provided which is adapted to embrace the handle of the key, said loop being provided with top and bottom members, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. The top member of the U-shaped portion of the swinging arm 8 is provided with a thumb screw 9 by means of which the handle of the key 2 is rigidly secured after the same is embraced by said loop.
In order to unlock the door the thumb screw 9 is loosened when the swinging arm 8 may be thrown to the dotted line position shown in Fig. 1.
It will be seen that when the arm 8 is in operative position that the key cannot be turned or forced out of the look from either side of the door and that the device is easily operated for either engaging or disengaging the key.
lVhile I have shown what I deem to be the preferable form of my improved key fastener, T do not wish to be limited thereto as there might be various changes made in the details of construction and arrangement of parts described without departing from the spirit of my invention, and hence I desire to avail myself of such variations and alterations as fairly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A key fastener comprising a plate secured to the door adjacent and below the key-hole thereof, a threaded pin integral with said plate, an arm detachably pivoted to said pin by means of a thumb-nut screwed on the latter, the body of said arm being inclined to the door and the portion thereof opposite the pivoted end being provided with a U- shaped loop having top and bottom members, and a thumb screw mounted in the top member of said loop, substantially as de scribed.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANK S. ODENZ.
