Signal Devices, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to transmitting si nals to a distance, and more partleulary signaling from a central police station 'or.
ofiice to a patrolman or oliicer upon a beat in order to attract his attention and cause him to communicate with the central station at times other than his regular time to report.
Our invention has for itsobject the provision of efiicient'and reliableapparatus at the patrol station, eontrolledirom the central station, to notify the patrolman to communicatewith the central station and rev ceive instructions.

'In the drawings, Figure l is a general view showing! a patrol station equipped in accordance with the invention; Fig. 2 is a front view on an enlarged scale, the pole being omitted and the fronts of the casings removed toshow the construction and arrangement of the apparatus; Fig. 3 .is a view in side elevation of the apparatus shown in Fig. 2, thewheels of the clock train being omitted to avoid complication; and Fig. 4 is a diagram of circuits.
Referring to the drawings, A is a signal arm mounted upon shaft '11- journaled in frame a, which is mounted in a suitable housing, in some conspicuous place such as near the top of a pole l. Shaft a is operatcd through bevel gears a", rod r1 and bevel gears a, by suitable driving mechanism, such as a clock train B located in a convenient place upon the pole accessible from the ground and protected by a suitable housing C. The rod of may be any desired length, according to the distance between the driving mechanism and the signal arm, andcnables us to vary this distance and the height of the pole at will.

The telephone set may be arranged either within casing C, as shown at T, Fig. 2, or in a separatebox.
The operation of the device will be readily understood from the foregoii'ig. \Vhen the device is in its normal position ready to receive and indicate-a call. the spring of clock train B being, wound,the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 2. Claims.- 4.
1. In a signal device, a signal arm, driving mechanism therefor, an electric circuit including a source of current and a light, a cam actuated from the shaft of said signal arm and arranged to open said circuit suddenly and to close said circuit, and means for controlling said driving mechanism.
2. In a signal device, a rotatable signal arm, driving mechanism comprising a clock train operatively connected thereto, an electric circuit including a source of current. and
a light, aswitch for opening and closing said circuit, a ram actuated from the shaftof said signal arm and arranged to open said circuit suddenly and to close said circuit,
