To all whom it may concer/n:
Be it known that I, LAMAR W. PALMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Riverside, in the county of Burlington and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Vise Attachment, of which the following is a specilication.
This invention relates to a vise attachment, the object being to provide an attachment for a vise by means of which the work can be clamped in the vise at rightangles to the jaws of the vise or at any angle desired whereby a person will be able to change the position of the material being worked upon in such a position that a great amount of work can be accomplished.
A still further Vobject of the invention is to provide a vise attachment which is exceedingly simple and cheap in construction and one in which the parts are so mounted and connected that they are not likely to get out of order in use.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an attachment which can be used in connection with any of the well known makes of vises now in use.
Another object of the invention is to provide a vise attachment which is provided with a pair of jaws which are adapted to be forced together by a pair of arms placed between the jaws of the vise so that when the jaws of the vise are brought together they will force the jaws of the attachment over the work to be clamped, in such a manner that the work will be held firmly.
With these objects in view, my invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which,

In carrying out my improved invention, I employ a pair of arms A and B which are reduced and overlapped as clearly shown and through which extends a pivot pin or bolt C so as to allow the arms to move freely thereon and to hold the same in their proper positions, said arms being provided with enlarged portions A and B which are provided with V-shaped notches A2 and B2 for the purpose hereinafter' fully de scribed.
Loosely mounted on the bolt C between the arms A and B are a pair of clamping jaws E and F which are normally held apart by a spring G seated within recesses,
formed in the inner faces of the aws, said jaws being provided with jaw faces E and F between which the work to be clamped is adapted to be placed. The jaws E and F are formed exactly alike and are provided with head members E2 and F2 and base members E3 and F3 through which extends a transverse bore through which the bolt C is adapted to pass, said bore being of such a size that the jaws will be loosely mounted thereon so that they can move apart in'such a manner that work can-be readily placed between the jaw faces and for holding the bases E3 and F3 away from the arms A and B, I provide the bases with shoulders E4 and F4. The shank portions E5 and F5 of the jaws E and F are provided with beveled outer faces so as to form Shanks substantially V-shaped in cross section which are adapted to co-act with the V-shaped notches of the arms A and B whereby when the arms are placed between the jaws of an ordinary vise and the jaws are brought together the jaws E and F of my improved device will be brought together over the work placed between the same in such a manner that the work will be firmly held therein at right-angles to the jaws of the vise which enables the person operating the work to reach the same with greater ease. It will also be seen that by placing the arms between the jaws of the vise at an angle the jaws E and F will be thrown at an angle so that they can be held at any angle desired.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided a vise attachment which is so constructed that the same can be used in connection with an ordinary vise w'hereby a person will be able to clamp the work in the device at any angle desired.
It will be seen that by having a device of this character ina work-shop it will not be necessary to have expensive vises as by simply plaeing this device in the ordinary vise, work can be clamped between the jaws of the same so that the work will be held in any position that could be accomplished on the expensive vises.
What I claim is l. A vise attachment comprising a pair of movable jaws and arms pivo-ted to swing at right angles tothe jaws for forcing said jaws together.
2. A vise attachment comprising a pair of spring actuated jaws and arms pivotally mounted to swing at right angles to the jaws adapted to be operated by the jaws of a vise for forcing said jaws together.
3. A vise attachment comprising a pair of arms pivotally connected together by a bolt, V-shaped notches formed in said arms, and a pair of jaws arranged between said arms on said bolt adapted to swing at right angles tosaid arms, said jaws being provided with shanks having beveled faces adapted to co-act with the V-shaped notches of said arms.
4. A vise attachment comprising a pair of arms pivotally connected together, said arms being provided with enlarged portions having V-shaped notches, a pair of jaws arranged between said arms, and a spring for holding said jaws apart, said jaws being provided with shanks having beveled faces co-acting with the notches of said arms.
5. A vise attachment comprising a pair of slidably and pivotally mounted jaws, a spring arranged between said jaws, and a pair of arms provided with V shaped notches straddling said aw's for closing the same.
6. A vise attachment comprising a pair of arms having reduced portions overlapped and pivotally connected together by a bolt extending transversely through the same, said arms being provided with enlarged portions having V-shaped notches, jaws having Shanks beveled t0 coact with said V-shaped notches, and base portions formed with bores through which said bolts extend, and with shoulders for holding the bases away from the arms; and a spring for forcing said jaws apart.
